[Kyoto Walking]Traditional Japanese performing arts at Fushimi Autumn Festival

The Gokogu Shrine’s Koshinsai Festival is an annual autumn event in Fushimi, known as the Fushimi Festival. It is celebrated as the largest and most significant festival in the Fushimi district. The festival is particularly renowned for its “Hana-kasa Sosan-gu” event, where elaborately crafted small and large flower umbrellas are offered to the shrine on the first and last days of the festival. It is often referred to as the “Hana-kasa Matsuri” or Flower Umbrella Festival.

The tradition of the Hana-kasa dates back to the Muromachi period, and it continues to be an integral part of Fushimi’s cultural heritage. This video showcases the essence of this traditional festival, not as a tourist attraction but as an integral part of Kyoto’s local life and culture, emphasizing the rich history and traditions associated with it.
