On a rainy day, I took a long walk through one of Tokyo’s biggest commuter cities – Hachioji – and watched Sakura and visited an interesting pedestrian street.

Hachioji City is a vibrant and historic city located in the western part of Tokyo Metropolis, Japan. It is one of the largest cities in the Tokyo metropolitan area and serves as a regional center for commerce, education, and culture.
Hachioji City is situated in the western part of Tokyo Metropolis, approximately 40 kilometers west of the central Tokyo area. Hachioji has a rich history that dates back centuries. The area was originally inhabited by the Hachioji clan, a local ruling family during the Sengoku period (Warring States period) in Japan. Hachioji Castle, a significant historical landmark, was constructed by the Hachioji clan in the 16th century and served as their residence. Today, the ruins of Hachioji Castle are preserved as a park and offer visitors a glimpse into the city’s past.
In September 2021, Hachioji City had a population of approximately 580,000 people. The city has a diverse demographic profile, with a mix of residents from various age groups and backgrounds. Hachioji’s population has been steadily growing over the years, fueled by its proximity to Tokyo and the availability of employment and educational opportunities.
Hachioji City is well-connected to other parts of Tokyo and neighboring cities through an extensive transportation network.
