■Description
Kanmangafuchi Abyss in Tochigi Prefecture is a small scenic spot known for the beautiful valley created by the Daiya River and row of Jizo statues. Surrounded by mountains and forests, the location showcases seasonal beauty via flowers and changing leaves.
It is said that there were originally about 100 Jizo statues there, but due to flooding and other factors, there are now about 70 remaining statues at the site. Because the number changes each time they are counted, it is called Bake Jizo (ghost Jizo) and creating a mysterious atmosphere. Jizo statues are familiar to Japanese people, but for foreign tourists, they are create uniquely Japanese landscapes. Therefore, Kanmangafushi abyss is secretly popular among visitors from overseas as well.
Within the walking distance from Nikko Toshogu Shrine, Kanmangafuchi Abyss is a hidden gem for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of tourist spots.
