A state of many contrasts, North Carolina is home to beaches, forests and mountains with conservative towns and liberal-leaning cities tucked away amidst them. With epic outdoor activities and communities to explore and, of course, old-time Southern charm; the Tar Heel State is a fascinating place to visit. While its shoreline is home to lots of barrier islands, the Piedmont region is made up of rolling hills and fertile farms. In the west are the beautiful Blue Ridge Moutains which boast the highest peaks east of the Mississippi. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in North Carolina:

  1. Did You Know that North Carolina is the birthplace of Pepsi-Cola?

    The fact that Pepsi-Cola was invented in North Carolina is another intriguing fact about the state. North Carolina native and medical student Caleb Davis Bradham was an apprentice at a neighborhood pharmacy.

    He was obliged to discontinue his studies due to a personal emergency and return to New Bern, where he established his own pharmacy.

    He produced "Brad's drink," a beverage to help digestion, in 1893; it quickly gained popularity and eventually evolved into what we now know as Pepsi.

  2. NC is the furniture capital of the world High Point, NC…. Durham Bulls Baseball Team, in Durham and The Durham Arts Theater… Jacksonville has a beach also. High Point has a baseball Team, called the HP Rockers….Greensboro has a baseball team, and The Boston House of Jazz Club, and a Natural Science Center. Raleigh has a State Fair every year. The Carolina Panters used to have a football field in Charlotte, but not sure if they still do.

  4. Nice to see that you’re pretty current. Light rail going through Uptown Charlotte and the Grand Bohemian Hotel there happened pretty recently. 👍

  5. I rent a house for family to come in and get together at Corolla every year. We go RVing numerous times a year at Camp Hatteras. Love it down there.

  6. I live in NC and Raleigh is nice but…boring the nightlife is sadly lacking. Charlotte should be the capital however, it also leaves something to be desired. But, the jobs and pay are worth all of the sleepy night life.

  7. I'll be playing my trombone in Old Salem on Dec. 3rd, 10th, and 17th, dressed in my 18th century Moravian clothing.

You didn't mention the Cherokee Qualla Boundary (reservation) great museum, 1800's village, Unto These Hills out door summer preformance, Casino with Shows, fishing, camping, Native Crafts, and more, etc… Also close to Bryson City and the Railroad ride,Natahala National Forest, kayacking, camping, fishing, tubing, etc… and close to Gatlinburg TN and Dollywood, Pidgeon Forge ,TN Just come down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Cherokee. Hendersonville, NC the Labor Day weekend Apple Festival, Great shops, local brewery's and wineries, Flat Rock Playhouse (the state theater), Carl Sandburg Home, and guess what Chimney Rock State Park is only 15 miles from Hendersonville. Western NC is the place to visit.

  10. Lexington NC rich history of textile and furniture manufacturing, still producing furniture. Home to the Lexington Barbecue, quiet neighborhoods, tree lined streets and busy Uptown Lexington’s shops, restaurants, pubs and development of the Depot District and a new High Speed Amtrak station ( construction begins soon) and home to the Bob Timberlake Gallery – southern Artist and Furniture designer! Lexington is minutes from Winston Salem/ Greensboro and less than an hour from Charlotte and the Charlotte Douglas Airport …

  13. I loved my time in the USAF. I was at a remote site between Havelock and Morehead City. Best fishing ever, wonderful weather and beach girls! 45 years later and I still miss it.

  14. I adore my home state! This could easily be a top 100 destinations for there are SO many beautiful sights all across The Old North State. Great highlight video! Gotta shout out to all our NC festivals and diverse music genres as a major highlight we are certainly blessed with! Some may say it comes from the Sweet Tea Suga! Y'all come back now ya hear~
