Sawara, Chiba prefecture is a town full of water and green, surrounded by paddy fields. Before the time of automobiles and trains, people used small boats to go places. Their canals were important water paths that provided access to schools or workplaces. Today, we can visit their historical townscape by tour boats.
千葉県（ちばけん）の佐原（さわら）は田んぼ（たんぼ）に囲まれた（かこまれた）水と緑の町です。車や電車がなかった頃（ころ）、人々（ひとびと）は舟（ふね）を使って、移動（いどう）していました。水路（すいろ）は舟が通るための、水の道です。学校へ行くのも、仕事へ行くのも、舟を使っていました。今は、観光船（かんこうせん）に乗って、むかしの町を見に行くことができます。
