Aila 😍😍😍
Before going to Japan, I always buy a japanese SIM card in Paris. It is cheap but very limited, but it's ok: I only use it for chatting with friends, and Google Maps which is perfect in Japan.
Then at the restaurant or in my room at the hotel, I use the wifi to transfer my photos and videos, Youtube, Instagram, …
For me it's not a constraint: it's better to fully enjoy each day in Japan than losing time on social networks, editing each photo, …
Ubigi has also worked pretty well for me in more remote areas in the countryside, mountains etc, where friends with other companies like Airalo etc would not get service or good speeds sitting next to me haha!
Download the offline map beforehand is a very helpful tips especially for Japan where map contains HUGE data than other country (train stations, buses, etc.).
Maybe it's just me but you definitely don't need 1gb a day if you only use google maps/browsing, etc.
I used 5gb over 3 weeks last year by limiting my social media to when I was on my airbnb wifi.
I've used Airalo in Japan a couple times and in Europe. No issues. There's also extra discounts if you use for example a Chase credit card.
This is brilliantly helpful! Thank you!

Mbps (Megabits/s)
not MBps (Megabytes/s) 😉
i tried ubigi for a 2 week trip and while it was better than a hotspot unit, I hit the soft cap pretty fast. Need to supplement it with wifi use.
They didn't mention it because they might see Chris Broad's channel as competition but I've used Journey Japan esim and that service also uses the Docomo network without routing through a foreign server which means less lag issues
I use phone and also tablet as back up so pocket wifi is better I like Japan wireles it gives you free powerbank 😊
aila kawaii!!
Perfect timing was just thinking about this, 4 weeks until my flight 🎉
