I travelled to Japan both golden week and new year's…..it was fine I wouldn't worry about avoiding these dates if you can't, your holiday will still be memorable. But definitely consider the weather though imo.
If you go in March, only go very late March!! I went mid March last year for 2 weeks and it was raining 90% of the time. Constantly wet and dark making it a shivering type of cold. I’m from Canada and I’m usually fine with the cold too. Had a friend go in March 2024 and said she wore her winter jacket early March
Hi Grace, so which week of March ( early, mid or late March?) are you referring to as “you’ll be able to catch some early sakura bloom” please? Thank you.
Yes these dates absolutely work for people who actually have work, which is always during those recommended months. Most people totally won't get fired for going at those times
When I went that first monday after golden week had the WORST traffic on the tram. Holy crap after that never again an 8 am ride. Nothing I wanted to do was open anyways lol.
We went late November to early/mid December, and it was perfect. We had beautiful weather the entire time we were there, perfect clear views of Fuji, we got to see the autumn foliage, the temperatures were perfect for walking around (we’re Canadian and much prefer feeling a little cold over feeling too hot), and the crowds were completely fine. We considered travelling in October but had looked at the temperatures and foliage calendars for previous years and decided it would be too hot, which we ended up being right about. We had friends go to Japan in Sept-Oct of the same year and they really struggled with the heat and humidity. And because we were there in early December, we got to see the Christmas decorations at Tokyo Disney with pretty tolerable crowd sizes. It was the perfect first trip to Japan, and we can’t wait to go back in the spring someday 🙂
