These are the most expensive months to avoid in Japan and when to come in state. Mid December to early January is the most expensive period due to the festive season. Instead, come in mid January to February, which is the cheapest and most quiet throughout the year. This is when you can find great winter deals and hotels are usually 50% cheaper during this time as long as you avoid popular winter destinations. Late March to April is the second most expensive period and is super crowded because the cherry blossoms will be in full bloom. I personally prefer early March, which is way cheaper. This is when the season transitions from winter to spring, so you’ll be able to spot some early Sakura blooms. Late April to early May is expensive due to Japan’s biggest public holiday of the year. The locals are given a long break, so there will be a search in prices. Mid to late May is a cheaper option, and the weather is not too hot or cold. A cheaper alternative is June to July if you don’t mind the rain and humidity. August is expensive due to the aon holiday and summer festivals. September is cheaper due to the unpredictable typhoon season, but make sure to avoid the silver leak period. November to early December is also expensive because this is when the autumn foliage is at its peak. Instead, come in October where prices and crowds are just beginning to build up, so it’s still affordable and you’ll even get to see some early autumn foliage without the crowds.
