Japan’s Hidden Paradise: The Bonin Islands 😳🌴 #sailing #travel
Look at these turtles mating in the shallows. There were sharks literally everywhere. Manta rays gliding beneath us and humpback whales breaching close by. Oh my. We’re in the Bonan Islands, one of the wildest places on Earth, and you can only get here by boat. Our time here was incredible. We took our dinghy through tunnels of jagged volcanic rocks that felt like a secret passageway to another world. We climbed jungle-covered mountains with clifftop views. The boys feared a jobfish and a spangled emperor, which we filleted and cooked up for dinner in our own secluded anchorage. We also spent a lot of time free diving and explored this cool shipwreck from World War II that had been totally reclaimed by nature. They call these islands the Galapagus of the Orient. And after this trip, I totally get it. It was so tough to hoist the sails and say goodbye to this place as we set off for our new destination. But don’t miss this episode.
