MY THREE REGRETS IN JAPAN❌ #japan

Three regrets I wish I knew before my first trip to Japan. Firstly is traveling to Japan during the four main Japanese holiday period. Not only is it the most expensive period to travel to Japan, but many local stores, restaurants, and attractions are going to be closed during this time. So, plan ahead and avoid these dates so you do not miss out on activities and experiences you’ve been looking forward to. Secondly, is not knowing that many local restaurants do not take online bookings and will only accept phone reservations. So, make sure to kindly ask your hotel concierge to make the reservation on your behalf at the start of your Japan trip. Thirdly, it’s using a data plan with weak signals, especially in the outskirts of Japan. You will struggle to navigate using Google Maps, translation apps, and to stay connected in general, which is why I always use Yubigi Eim. You’ll be able to get 5G speeds all across Japan and stay connected the moment you land. Use the link in my bio and my promo code for 10% off.

DO NOT make these mistakes in Japan!

Compiled all my mistakes and regrets from my first trip to Japan and over the past year and a half living in Japan. So excited to share these with all of you because I wished I knew these before going to Japan:

1. Do not travel to Japan during Japan’s biggest holiday periods
2. If an activity or restaurant do not offer online reservation, you can get your hotel concierge to make a reservation for you. But make sure to do this on the first day of your Japan trip to prevent any disappointment
3. Make sure to get an eSIM that works in the outskirts of Japan if you’re planning to explore further out of the city area- Ubigi has been my go to eSIM which offers 5G connectivity the moment I land in Japan! Most importantly, I did not experience any issues with connectivity during my recent trip to the outskirts of Japan.

  1. Just FYI, Silver Week only happens when different holidays fall on a Friday and Monday to make a long weekend. So it's not every year.

The next time it happens will be in 2026, 2032, 2037, 2043 etc.

  2. Do you have a recommendation for a sim card if you want to have a japanese number and are travelling round rural areas?

  3. If I do go in July into August what’s the latest I should be there before obon makes things problematic

  4. I also avoid Tsuyu (rainy season) which starts in early June, through September to beat the summer heat, and winter to beat Japan’s cold, humid winters.
