most wanted japanese item π―π΅π
For many people, this is a must buy when visiting Japan. There’s always a crowd to get a pair of Onitka Tigers, a Japanese footwear brand. You might have seen their shoes in the film Kill Bill. Martial arts legend Bruce Lee was also a fan of the brand. Onitska was quite popular in the mid200s, but they have again exploded in popularity postco thanks to social media and current sneaker trends. Americans can’t buy these shoes ever since Onitka closed their stores in the United States in 2023. So, it’s kind of a if you know, you know souvenir. It means that you holidayed in Japan. It’s also considered a really good deal for Europeans. While the signature model costs β¬160 overseas, it’s only β¬9 here in Japan. Plus, tourists get a 10% tax-free discount. It’s funny how the Japanese brand is actually more popular among tourists than Japanese themselves. It’s rather expensive for people learning in yen. So, Nike, Adidas, and New Balance tend to be the preferred brands for casual shoes. Fun fact, don cat higer is the reason Nike exists.
very interesting to see the new trendy sneakers every few years #onitsukatiger #japaneseculture #japantravel

It's true that they were a huge influence on Nike. Phil Knight wrote a paper at Stanford Business School titled
"Can Japanese Running Shoes Do to German Running Shoes What Japanese Cameras Did to German Cameras?"
which is quite the mouthful for someone who went on to be a legend in the world of marketing
is this why every time i see onitsuka tiger itβs always super crowded π
Clarks is a sensible English brand of shoe whose customers tend to be school children and older people. However in Jamaica, Clarks are a hip brand! And they sell specific brands which you can only find in Jamaica!π
I miss my pair!! They were blue and the most comfy sneakers ever.
Onitsuka Tiger started shipping to US again, thankfully… they're just double the price nowπ
Onitsukaβs are my favourite shoesβ€ they fit so wellπ
I love Onitsukas and always get a pair when Iβm in Japan, since itβs at least 20% cheaper compared to the price in Australia
The kind of sneakers aren't my thing, I've learned that Converse is Japan owned, has nothing to do with the US one and therefore is "Made in Japan" with better quality. That one I will hunt down. π
Oni… What? Aren't those ASICSs?
Okay I'll get them once I'll get to Japan
Onitsuka is available online in the US. Not sure about this "Americans can only buy in Japan" schtick
I use to love the tigers, they were like a lighter skate shoe. I never noticed that they were in kill bill until now lol
Why is Onitsuka the reason Nike exists?
They invented Nike and then Nike stole the idea.
Absolutely not for wide feet people.
I need those shoes so bad
