Shipping My Motorcycle to Japan Was a Costly Disaster 🇯🇵 S8 EP 102 | Pakistan to Japan
Our Rangeeli has been cleared by the customs. After spending $3500, our motorcycle is finally here. Bringing the motorcycle here, has been the biggest mistake in all my travels worldwide. Assalam-o-Alaikum everyone and welcome back to the channel from Tokyo Machida. It has been exactly 40 days since I got here. As you know we’ve been facing customs clearance issues regarding our motorcycle and luggage. Alhamdulillah our process has been completed. Yesterday I went to Tokyo port. They handed over my luggage. The customs clearance was complete. However, our motorcycle is not here. It is about 80 km away from here from Ibaraki. There they have car yards mostly owned by Pakistani dealers. There they had space so the motorcycle went straight to them from Tokyo port, upon my request. So today’s plan is that I will leave from here and go to Ibaraki and see in what condition our motorcycle is. I’ll also share the process and cost of bringing the motorcycle from Thailand. Along with our future plans. You might think that now as the motorcycle is here… I will just sit on it and start exploring Japan. But there are still some major issues. I’ll also share those with you. So let’s leave from here and go to Ibaraki. And visit some interesting places along the way. Bismillah… In the name of Allah Prayer for the journey O Allah… May our day be a blessed one. It is not a long ride but still it will take 3 hours. It is about 76 km. But in Tokyo and all the nearby areas there are so many traffic signals that one gets worried. Ever since I have come here the weather has been cloudy. Hardly a few sunny days. And when it is sunny… it is just too hot. Especially when you are walking… Or even riding a motorcycle. It’s scorching heat in sunlight. These clouds are making the weather very depressing. See… the kids are returning from their school. And their bags are all the same. You must have seen their videos on Instagram. These are very expensive bags. They’ve GPS system for the parents to track their child’s location. In case of earthquake, there is protection. And many other functions. I might show you one of these bags if I visit some Pakistani family. These are considered to be the most expensive school bags in the world. Some are as expensive as $600. My source of info is the videos that I have watched. I will confirm when I will meet a family. We will take a short break here. Because I feel so drained from riding the motorcycle. To be honest, I think I have visited more than 100 countries. I visited some on a motorcycle while some others on a car. I have also traveled with friends on their vehicles. So this is my experience. This region of Tokyo has a population of 38 to 40 million. Tokyo city and nearby cities. I have never experienced such a slow journey in the world. Mostly if it is 30-35 km, in traffic jams it may take longer. The traffic here is very sophisticated. People follow rules and drive safely. They are very patient. But still, since the traffic is very slow, traveling 30 km can easily take up to 2 hours. This may be because of very high population. And the infrastructure is not like that in other countries, where you may get a bypass to avoid the city traffic. But that’s not what I saw here. Last 30 km have totally dared me. I have hardly been riding for 2 hours. And I was on a motorcycle. If I were on a car, it would have taken more time. Anyways, I’ve just got some coffee from 7-11. As well as onigiri. The advantage of convenience stores is that you get food items and they also have a place to sit. There are washrooms as well. So you get everything from here. Look at these wagons. I mean every other car is like that. Apparently they are really famous here. Thank God… the views are a little better as we’re out of city area now. So we have reached Ibaraki now. There are so many cars here. And big yards. Apart from that, of course since this is an industrial area, there are many factories here. Along with that you will also see nature here. Big sports grounds. And rice crops. There are trucks here as well for transportation to the port. And also from port to here. Azeem whom I am going to visit, told me that the biggest auction of Japanese cars takes place here. So you can say that Ibaraki is the hub of used cars in Japan. And there are so many rivers as well. I think this is the fourth river here that we are crossing. Let’s see if this is it. I think this is it. I can’t see Rangeeli. Assalamu Alaikum. How are you Sir? I am fine. Assalamu Alaikum. How are you Sir? The customs clearance of Rangeeli is complete. And finally it has been handed over to us Here we have a very good Pakistani brother, Azeem Bhai. I have placed it in his yard. So now the plan is to keep it in this box. I haven’t taken it out yet. Let me tell you the reason. First of all, I want to tell you about the shipping process from Thailand to Japan. What were the issues there? When I gave my motorcycle to the agent in Thailand, it was supposed to leave on 12th March and reach here on 12th April. He told me it would be a month. But since my motorcycle had an overstay in Thailand, we had to send the customs all the documents and fines. As per what the agent told me… that there was a delay of 3 weeks. It shouldn’t have happened. But unfortunately, it did. Because of which the motorcycle reached here at the end of April. I had estimated that it would reach here on 12th or 13th April. Custom clearance would be done in a week. And we’ll start our journey. So, in that process, I had to pay customs fees, shipping cost, and the fine for the overstay. Altogether, it cost me around $2200. And, when I reached here, I was initially told it was $400. But as I mentioned in the previous video, the luggage on the motorcycle, the accessories, my tent, sleeping bag, helmet, jacket, etc. The agent told me that because we did not provide all the details, all the luggage would be opened and checked. Custom clearance would be done. After that, after a delay of 3 weeks, today is the 27th when we got the motorcycle, all the accessories, etc. And, I paid around $1200 to $1300. So, you can say it took almost 2 months plus $3500 for the motorcycle to reach here. Now, that it has reached here. It is in the crate. But I have to take it out because I cannot legally ride it in Japan. The reason for that is since Germany is not a member of the Geneva Convention for Traffic, I cannot legally ride it here with a German number. I was aware of this. It was my initial idea. I was informed by the Japan Automobile Association that after bringing the motorcycle here, there is a roadworthiness test. That test is carried out in all the countries; including Germany. It is assessed if the motorcycle can be brought on the road. In case it needs some sort of service, that is taken care of. Then, I will get a Japanese number plate and I can ride it in Japan for a year. So, I can do this. But, bringing the motorcycle here was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my entire travels. I was not aware of the rules and how everything is checked in detail. The clearing agents on both sides, Thailand as well as here, did not give me all the info. If I had known, I would not have brought my motorcycle here. I have made a mistake. The next mistake would be to get a roadworthiness test and registration. If there is any minor issue, it will be a waste of time and money. Because, if I had known about the roadworthiness test, I would not have brought my bike here. The Japan Automobile Association only told me that I can get my bike registered locally when it is inspected. But, they did not tell me the cost. You have no idea about the cost. 700,000 Yen which is almost $5000; more than the price of this bike. I didn’t know this. If I had known, I would not have brought my bike here. But, I had to go through the customs clearance process. When I got my motorcycle here, I got to know about the cost of bringing it on the road. So I told them not to do any customs clearance. And send my bike to Canada. Because I’m considering touring North and South America. But I was told that since the motorcycle has landed here, I have to go through the custom clearance process anyway. After that, I can send it somewhere else. I had no other option. But, now I have made a mistake to bring it here. I’m not gonna make another mistake by doing the next process. I learn from my past mistakes. Now, I have Arif’s motorcycle here. He told me to travel as much as I can in Japan. As the tour is over, I can then return the motorcycle. And say bye bye to Japan. I have a good friend, Imran who lives in Niigata. He told me that Japan is very strict and I should not bring my bike here. I told him that I have been to many countries and there are rules everywhere. But, I am following all the relevant rules. But I never have to face issues regarding the minor specifics of such rules. Because travelers don’t bring their cars or bikes here. This is the reason. It is possible that someone else had an issue with the bike. Now, what is done is done. I will leave my bike in this crate. And I’ll go on with my Japan tour. I’ll decide if I want to send my bike to Germany, Pakistan or Canada. I’ll see if I’ll continue to ride with this motorcycle or get a new one. We’ll see about that. But, for now, unfortunately, $3500 plus 2 months of waiting and 40 days are wasted in Japan. I am mainly sad that my time is wasted. Because I would have already covered a lot of Japan. But, never mind. It is part of travel. One learns from such things. And I’ve learned a lot from this. Some of them, I’ve already shared with you in previous videos. I will share the rest later. This is Azeem. It’s his yard that I brought my motorcycle to. Thank you very much. If it wasn’t for you, I would have faced a lot of trouble and I would have spent a lot of money. He sent one of his guys to get my motorcycle here. Thank you very much. You are welcome. Mr. Shimshal Mr. Inam Heres’ Mr. Amjad. Amjad saw me in one of my videos, at Arif’s house. But, I was not at home that day. So couldn’t meet. Thank you very much. Amjad has brought flowers for me. Thank you very much. I couldn’t meet you that day. I messaged him and asked him to meet me here. A lot of people are messaging me. I try to meet all of them. Thank you very much. It was a pleasure meeting you. May Allah bless you. Thank you. This is our dinner. We have a lot of food here. I wasn’t expecting to have Pakistani food like this, today. But, thank you very much. A lot of friends have joined us. Thank you so much. Some of them are here. Thank you so much. All of this has come from his restaurant. What is the name of the restaurant? Mezban. Thank you so much. It looks amazing. Thank you so much. Thank you. Okay Zaeem, I will see you again. Thank you. Before ending this vlog, there are a couple of things that I want to clear. A lot of people were commenting in the last video as well. Almost everyone at home is an expert. And believe me, when you go out, There are a lot of things that you do with a lot of thought. You think through 100%. That it’s a bulletproof idea. But still, there are issues. You take the help of an expert. Shipping agents know everything. We don’t know everything. But, if there’s still an issue, you have to bear the consequences. So, unfortunately, this issue came up. There are a few things that I would like to suggest to travelers who want to bring their car or bike here. First of all, if your country is not a member of the Geneva Convention for Traffic, then don’t bring it. If you bring it, you will be able to clear the customs. But the process of local registration can be very lengthy. Second, it can be very expensive. The 7 Lakh Yen that they have told me, is not authentic. Multiple people have told me multiple amounts. But whoever told me, told me a very high amount. There is no institution where I can confirm the amount. That’s why I have canceled the registration process. Because I was afraid that it would take a lot of time. And it may cost more than that. And if you are a member of the Geneva Convention for Traffic, and you want to bring your bike or car here, then try to make sure to be on the same ferry as your motorcycle. So that you can clear your immigration at the same time. It will be a similar process as crossing the border. There will be no issue. Your bike will be cleared within a few hours. And if you are coming by air, then that is also best. I have seen people do that within 2-3 hours. But if you are going for the shipping option, like me, then try not to put anything extra on the motorcycle. Even, the extra parts of the motorcycle should not be on it. For example, if you want to keep the brake pad separately, or you want to keep the windscreen on the side, or you want to keep the tire on the side, then don’t do that. Because we usually do this to save shipping costs. To reduce the size of the crate. But there are issues. Unless your clearing agent takes the responsibility that he will do it. Then it’s fine. Otherwise, there will be issues like I did. And it will be a waste of time and money. Anyway, this was my experience. It’s possible that other people have a better experience with shipping. But these things happen. Personally, it was a tough time for me. I had to wait for a month and a half. Normally, I travel for a month and a half. And then I go back to my family. But in all this process, and all this time, Arif took care of me. It’s possible that I would have gone back, rejected. and asked him to keep my bike. Because I didn’t have my passport. It was with my agent. I couldn’t even travel. So hospitality of Pannu. I will always remember this. And I will still travel on his bike. Along with that, Azeem helped me a lot in the process. Otherwise, I could have spent $700 or $800. And it would have taken more time. Thank you very much. Remember me in your prayers. I will explore Japan in the coming days. Allah Hafiz

EXCELLENT VIDEO.FROM ITALY.
Don't insult your viewers by saying 'everybody at home is an expert '. Two things, firstly when you post videos people will leave comments whether you like it or not. Secondly, you assumed, just because you travelled other countries the laws and regulations will be same in Japan? You mentioned even one of you associates told you prior to travelling it is difficult – but you srill did it. So moral of the story is assumption is the mother bla bla bla. And dont insult you viewers just because you screwed up.
Sad to hear this. More power to you 😊
