Japan Walking Tour | Otsuka, Tokyo in the evening

Otsuka Station is located about 20 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Yamanote Line and 3 minutes from Ikebukuro Station. Tokyo’s only streetcar, the Toden Arakawa Line, runs along the side of the road in front of the station, giving it a nostalgic air. Unlike railroads, streetcars, whose tracks are laid on the road, used to run all over Japan, but as car traffic increased, the lines were closed one after another, and they are now rare.
Ikebukuro, Otsuka’s neighboring station, is crowded with many people, especially young people. Otsuka, on the other hand, gives the impression of being loved by the people who live and work there, rather than by the many people from outside the city who come to visit.
In addition, the Sun Mall Otsuka shopping district on the south side of the station is lined with restaurants with an international flavor. Rather than international cuisine for Japanese people, there seem to be more restaurants that are popular with the foreign residents in this area than in other parts of the city. It is similar to Okubo, a typical foreign residential area in Tokyo, but it is not as crowded as Okubo as a tourist area, so visitors can enjoy a relaxing stroll.
