oh Japan Japan continues to change and
2024 is already a year full of new
things to explore along with important
changes to the way we travel and do
things flight prices are about to change
forever Japan is looking at changing the
way people enter with a new EST style
system there are new digital visas
available updates to the flesh eating
virus Starbucks is about to reopen at
Shibuya scramble Crossing and new
attractions and things to check out too
so whether you’re a return traveler or
visit in Japan for the very first time
these changes and information will help
you know what to expect and help you
plan your perfect trip to Japan I’m
nearly at 30,000 subscribers so please
consider helping the channel grow by
subscribing it’s the ultimate form of
appreciation a new esta entry system is
on the way you know the one where you
have no choice but to pre-register your
trip and potentially pay a fee for
additional checks that ultimately lets
you into the country still a few years
away but by 2030 entry in Japan will be
a very different experience as Japan
plans to implement a new electronic
system for travel authorization Esther
this will follow the model of the United
States and aims to enhance border
security and manage immigration
efficiency Travelers will need to submit
the personal details travel purposes and
accommodation plans online and
immigration officials will review this
information crosschecking against
criminal databases to prevent those with
potential security threats or intention
for illegal work from entering we are
entering a new era where Travelers will
need to pay the $5 trillion cost of
decarbonizing air travel at the expense
of higher air travel ticket prices the
Yen might be weak and once you get to
Japan things can be surprisingly cheap
but there’s a huge change on the horizon
and a new reality is about to set in
with very little that we can do about it
and things have already started
Singapore has introduced attacks on
airfares to Fan the use of sustainable
aviation fuel and Malaysia will soon
allow Airlines to charge a carbon fee
too meanwhile in Europe airlines are
losing a quarter of their emissions
allowances which is estimated to push
ticket prices up with the industry now
aiming for net zero emissions by 2050
prices shouldn’t rise too dramatically
to start with for instance in Singapore
all departing flights will take off with
only 1% of sustainable aviation fuel in
Jets tanks from 2026 but will rise to
between 3 and 5% by 2030 meanwhile the
European Union will start off with 2%
sustainable aviation fuel in 2025 but
will gradually increase this to 70% by
2050 these coming changes are a warning
of higher prices on the horizon how far
will this new Aviation reality go we
will find out soon enough okay new
attractions new Starbucks is back yes
finally the iconic Starbucks at Tokyo’s
Shibuya scramble Crossing is set to
reopen on April the 25th the redesigned
second floor Now features a Starbucks
green ribbon theme which guides
customers through the space with visual
elements Like A 233 ft seating area and
115 ft digital art display that
showcases images of coffee and Shibuya
bustling intersection this layout not
only enhances the viewing experience of
the city but also simplifies shopping by
allowing drinks food and merchandise
purchased all on the same floor
previously tourists would order their
beverages on the ground floor and
inconveniently have to take it up the
escalators to the next floor and hope
for a seat with a view of the Shibuya
scramble Crossing this has always been
one of my favorite people watching
locations even though it’s quite busy
and touristy I’ve always enjoyed the
amazing theater of everyone Crossing at
the same time Detective Conan fans
Universal Studio Japan has newly opened
a permanent attraction inspired by the
Beloved Detective Conan anime this
venture transforms a theater attraction
in the New York area into Detective
Conan 4D live show Jewel Under The
Starry Sky made up of a colossal 45 M
wide screen the venue immerses visitors
in a 30-minute original story featuring
The Young detective unraveling mystery
enhanced with water splashes and other
special effects along with appearances
by other characters the experience will
transport you into the captivating world
of Detective Conan Japan toilets are
famous for their cleanliness and techn
technology and now you can go on a
public toilet tour the Tokyo toilet
shutle tour is a 2hour journey that
includes stops at nine distinct toilets
with features of these facilities
ranging from walls that turn opaque upon
entry to voice activated fions so why
not visit less visit the parts of
Shibuya and admire the advanced toilet
technology celebrated globally in media
and pop culture thanaku bandre I also
had the opportunity to personally visit
this new EO inspired Street Food Market
next to toyosu Fish Market although I
personally wasn’t too impressed with its
very commercial feel I can understand
being a very good location to visit if
you are in the area of visiting toyosu
Market I still prefer the more mature
teiji AO Market but the one thing that I
do highly recommend that you check out
is the foot bath at the top of this
newly opened Market in Saku not only
will you be able to give your feet some
rest bite you’re going to need it in the
waters of the hot spring but you’ll be
doing so with a fantastic view
overlooking the bay and best of all it’s
free you can rent a towel or bring your
own if you’re well prepared it might be
goodbye sakuda and until next year but
it’s now time to get ready for summer
activities and I’ve partnered with cluk
the all-in-one Japan online ticketing
agent the platform is offered in
multiple languages and in your local
Curren curcy and if you’ve been
following my channel for some time now
then you’ll know how much I stress the
need to book activities and tickets in
advance so that you don’t miss out and
what I love the most is how easy and
comprehensive the information is on
their website for their Japan offerings
so check out the early bird summer sale
promotion where you’ll be able to get up
to 50% off during the sale by booking
between April the 21st and April the
30th it’s a great opportunity to not
only get a great product but also
support the channel too clo is becoming
my personal number one place for booking
everything Japan related from shanson
tickets to hotels and tours give it a go
and download the app today things are
quickly escalating visitor numbers are
higher than expected it’s kind of scary
to think that Japan has set a record on
inbound tourism numbers and is even on
track to surpass its goal for 2025
according to data from the Japan
National tourism organization January to
March saw 8.5 6 million foreign visitors
put in Japan well on course to exceed
its pre-pandemic Target of 32 million
annual Visitors by 2025 March alone saw
a record of 3.08 million foreign
visitors as a result of Easter holidays
and the famous cherry blossom season so
if you thought that crowds were bad now
then what does the future hold for Japan
who hopes to attract 16 million Visitors
by 2030 interesting fact did you know
that 65% of foreign visitors are from
South Korea Taiwan and China and that
fukoka and Tokyo experience the highest
growths in foreign visits has this fact
surprised you only 35% of foreign
visitors are from the West who would
have said digital Nomad this one’s for
you if you have had dreams of living in
or spending an extended time in Japan
then finally Japan’s new digital nor
Visa is live this Visa is available to
qualified foreign Nationals and their
immediate families for example their
spouse and child but is limited to a
six-month stay and is nonrenewable
applicants must be engaged in providing
Professional Services or selling Goods
to clients outside of Japan this
includes roles like it and software
developers digital designers and others
who work remotely and yes there is an
income threshold applicants must have an
annual income of at least 10 million yen
which is around
$64,000 digital normal visas must also
possess private medical insurance with
coverage of at least 10 million per
person this fees is exciting but at the
same time it’s kind of disappointing six
months will make living in Japan kind of
hard you won’t be able to show residency
for over a year making hard to rent get
a phone or even open a bank account a
lot of estate agents won’t be willing to
rent to anyone traveling with a
six-month Visa or less who wants to live
in a business hotel for 6 months and who
wants to risk poor Wi-Fi connectivity at
cafes or or even at share houses so if
you are thinking of coming to Japan long
term be very careful this Visa might not
be for you the main point is that this
Visa will legally allow you to travel
whilst at the same time work unlike a
tourist visa we’re doing so is against
the rules okay what’s all this about the
flesh eating virus thingy in the last
few weeks it’s been media hype of a
flesh eating disease outbreak and I
wanted to set the record straight that
currently there is no cause for alarm
Japanese Health officials are advising
Travelers Not to alter their plans to
visit Japan stressing that the rising
cases of strep toocle I hope I said it
right toxic shock syndrome stss
shouldn’t cause panic and a reminder
that simple preventative steps like
regular handwashing wearing masks and
wound care are recommended the World
Health Organization has not issued
Travel warnings and to put things into
perspective last year Japan saw a record
9 41 cases in a country with a
population of 125 million people and
although figures this year are
significant there is yet no need to
worry bad experience warnings you’ve
heard of height restrictions on them
park rides but have you ever heard of
waste restrictions well they are more
common than you might think but in Japan
this could pose more of a problem a Tik
Tok user shared her experience at The
Wizarding World of Harry Potter in
Universal Studio Japan attempting to
enjoy the Flight of the hippogriff she
found that the ride size constrains
didn’t accommodate her a situation that
highlights an ongoing issue in theme
parks around the world wasting
restrictions can be found across the
world for example at Universal Studios
Hollywood where the Mario Kart Bowser
challenge ride restricts guests from a
waistline over 40 in even though this is
just over the average for an American
man but Japanese Travelers be warned
this issue is even more pronounced at
Universal Studio Japan where the local
population generally has a smaller
average body size compared to the Us and
other countries leading to rides that
many International visitors might find
restrictive it’s important to note that
the guest involved in the incident was
removed from the ride but was treated
kindly by the staff and was given an
Express Pass as an apology what are your
thoughts on this one so there you have
it there’s so much information to unpack
and I always look forward to hearing
what you have to say so please comment

  1. The part of waist size doesn't involve me so much but, I am pretty tall at 2m. Is there any information on max height for rides?

  2. Agenda 2030 you will own nothing and be happy. Let me remind you guys during the big meeting for the environment they had last year all the multi billionaires went the first thing they excluded from that was their private jets yachts Ferrari Lamborghinis’s houses they have a pass to do whatever they want, but we have to pay.

  3. I hope by the time I save the money up for the series of trips, I'll actually be able to afford the flights.

  4. Universal Studios should have given their guest a yearly supply of Ozempic instead.🤣

  5. A waist size restriction on amusement park rides sounds like a problem waiting to blow up out of proportion. At least in the US it would be much more likely. 🐖😂

  6. I travel to Japan annually for work and enjoy visiting this beautiful country, but 2024 was unlike any previous year. The influencers and TikTok crowd were atrocious and blocked busy streets and train stations; tourists from several nationalities were treating the country like a theme park and the locals like subservient employees. For the first time ever, I also saw American-owned chains advertising American political movements in their stores in Tokyo, something that you just don’t do in Japanese society regardless of your personal beliefs. I hope the country takes steps to protect itself from overtourism as well as to remain Japanese.

  7. Thanks for all the info!
I've been looking foward to my first international trip. I've only been planning a trip to Japan since I was like ten 😂 nervous and excited all at the same time

  8. 🇯🇵 Just finished my first trip to Japan. Absolutely life changing experience.

Met some absolutely amazing people. I can’t wait to go back.

  9. Maybe if we had a waist restriction on flights or charge by weight like we do for luggage, then they could use the extra money to offset the emissions. Win for everyone! Another good one Ninja Monkey ❤🇯🇵

  10. So my 90 day Visa Free travel to Japan will be nullified in 2030 and I’ll be priced out like I am out of the USA great more goal posts moved in the future!😒

  11. Thank you for the video, Chief.

Japan needs to change their 2 year holiday visa age restrictions. 30 is too young for people in these times. They need to extend it to 40/45 like Australia has. They're really holding themselves back with this, especially with their decline in population.

It is good, though, that they're declaring more job roles as skilled work. Like lorry drivers. Just a shame they're slow to implement these changes.

  12. I'm not familiar with ESTA systems at all. I assume that not every country will have to use these as Japan is targeting 'the usual suspects' and Westerners are the least of their concern.

I imagine that it's not just the seats on rides that are smaller in Japan. Japanese people on average are smaller and the contents of shops reflect that.

I imagine some Japanese people may find that they do not meet height limits on rides in the West and may find buying clothes in Western countries difficult.

  13. As usual you jam packed this video with information. Much I didn't know of or hadn't realized were in or nearly coming in to effect. I find it funny that governments and airlines view raising airfare for a myriad of reasons as sustainable. The just a little more to save the planet (however, government bureaucrats, leaders don't pay these fees their tax payers do. They also fly multiple planes part full to not inconvenience these important people, saving the planet not considered.), security fees increased, landing fees increased, tourist fees increased, etc. All of this is fine till the customers stop flying. Airlines reduce service or cease to fly. Tourism decreases causing revenue losses to both public and private sectors. Tourism as we know it is really only existed for less than thirty years, before that it was only the super wealthily who travelled on a regular basis. I fear that this centuries norm may return.

  14. This ever increasing influx of tourists to Japan is good for their economy and anyone with stores profiting from the tourist trade, but I feel so sorry for the majority of Japanese people who are helpless to watch as their way of life is changing so rapidly. I know a few families from Kyoto from back in my high school student exchange days, and to hear some of their stories breaks my heart. (And before anyone points it out, I love Japan as much as anyone else here, so as a fellow tourist I know I'm part of the problem).

It is seemingly easy for tourists to forget they are visiting a place where people live and work, and when visiting Japan now you don't need to look far to see someone disrespecting or ignoring the accepted etiquette/guidelines (phones on trains, pushing and cutting queues, being rude to staff, going where they aren't supposed to), or just generally being ignorant of their surroundings and the other people around them.

Great video again Nathan. I love these bite-sized summaries of Japan news. Makes it very easy to stay up to date.

  15. I'm a bigger guy and nearly held up the Mario Kart ride in USJ as we couldn't get the bar to click, thankfully after some jostling and a big deep breath we got it, once moving I didn't notice how tight it was, but I feel I was moments from being removed if they couldn't get it closed.

  16. Any tips for purchasing a day ticket to USH JAPAN from a tourist perspective. I want to ride as many rides, doesn't matter the cost

  17. Just back from my 11th trip to Japan I also noticed things have changed (even compared to last autumn!) Tiredness of tourists was clear, many more not well behaving travellers unfortunately. I absorb local manners like a mushroom and do my best to adjust, respect and learn as I love Japan and all my Japanese friends so much. Every traveller should read a book titled ”The dos donts in Japan”. Of course I understand that I belong to the ever growing number of tourists as well and it makes me even sadder.

Thank you Nathan for all your always topical, valuable tips, vast and versatile knowledge plus overall very pleasant manner of presenting things.

I used sakura mobile for the first time now (on your recommendation and using your link). Everything worked immaculately! I’ll never travel to Japan without an e-simcard again! 😍🙏♥️🇯🇵♥️🌸🌸🌸

  18. Just back from my 2nd trip, and booked flights for my 3rd for July (want to sample that infamous heat/humidity! – tho heading to Hokkaido initially). Didn't know the Starbucks was back I'll head there when I'm in Tokyo…just subscribed btw as Iove the "off the beaten track" stuff

  19. Thanks for the video full of good advices and remarks. I will check Klook for popular activities bookings 😄 As I like to ensure oversized luggage space I will use Smart-EX to book my Tokaido Shinkansen 😉

  20. 🎌🎌My husband and I are planning to come back to Japan again, in 2025 or 26. It will be my 4th trip and my husband's 2nd (in 2025/26). We both finally went in September / October 2023, for my birthday🎂. So I was happy to show him, why I love Japan so much🥰(he now loves it too 🤩. Thanks for once again, giving us all up-to-date info. And here's yours 🎌🎌😆.

  21. Great video as always Nathan 🤘🏻✨ you’ve made my day with the news that Starbucks Shibuya is back. One of my fave spots in the world for human-gazing too! 🇯🇵

  22. 🇯🇵 Thank you for all the great information – curios what it will be, as I‘m going to Japan in August/September for the first time 🤔

  23. Gosh. We're planning a trip next yr, but hopefully nothing much will change. Love your vids. Got my japan itenirary based from your vids 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵

  24. @NinjaMonkeyguy – I hopped onto your planning for Japan Q&A stream and could not seay hello, as YouTube kept telling me, chat is only available for subscribers who subscribed for at least a minute. It did not change aven after re-sbuscribing, I am a long time sub and I could not post anything. Was something changed so that only chanel members who pay for subscribing can post messages in chat now?

  25. Tokyo and Osaka (and to some extent, Hiroshima and Nara) were slammed with tourists when I visited but I didn't see any legendary stories of misbehavior like some people are saying on this message board. What's the flip side of the coin, because the Japanese are hardly the perfect people they like to portray themselves to be. Either accept the tourists and the money they are bringing in, or cap the number of tourists, but don't be crybabies about it because the subway or buses were overcrowded. I live in Washington DC and we get slammed with tourists too every summer but you know what, we find a way to live with it because it provides a lot of jobs here and there are a lot of things to see and do here. You know that word, job? J-O-B? that gives people employment? adds money to the local tax base?

  26. 🇯🇵 so excited for my first trip back to Japan since 1994, and this time with my husband and college kids! Thanks for your tips & information!

  27. air fare going up? i guess i'll never be able to go to japan. might as well just save up for a vr headset and just look at it there…

  28. I'm pretty much in Japan twice a year because of work and TikTok influencers are ruining the Japan experience, they're loud, rude and block pathways.

  29. What makes me sad is that some places were really packed due to tourists when i visited japan last autumn and numbers are expected to rise a lot more. It is such a beautiful country with lovely people and beautiful architecture and nature and i eally want to go back. But seeing that for example Kiyomizu-dera in Kyoto or Kyoto in general was so full of tourists, i'm really afraid of Japan at some point getting upset wih tourists plus tourism and the industry behind it slowly taking it its identity. So lets hope that the japanese government doesn't only see the money to be made from tourism and creates some limits where possible

  30. I mean, the waist size things make sense tbh. Just like you wouldn't put kids into a roller coaster as they wont fit, people who don't fit also dont fit.

  31. 7:31 wow I did not know 65% of tourists in Japan are from those nationalities! Hopefully they behave better than the obnoxious western tourists Japanese people are complaining about.

  32. some friends and i (3 of us all 18) are looking to plan a trip for late june into august. 10 days. we want to stay in tokyo, but take day trips to other places like osaka, kyoto, and sendai. any tips that can help us?
