All right let’s try that [Applause] again let’s try that one more time [Applause] Had some problems there with uh prism so we’re going to use the YouTube Native app to stream today resolution will be a little bit lower I think but uh yeah I don’t know what’s going on with with prism it just gave me a big connection

Air and booted me but we’re down here at the University of Kentucky this is the school of education over [Applause] here it’s uh 60° outside today sorry for the error bar Brook good to see you yeah that’s the College of Education I’m coming up on the fire department the firehouse that serves the

University we’ll cross the street here uh we’ve got the business school right up here and then the law school is just past that along with uh the University Hospital very fall feeling day hey Ari what’s up good to see you it’s a very fall feeling day but it’s certainly not

Fall oh Barack I hope this is a walk down memory lane I think we’ll cross right [Applause] here you can see Patterson office tower up here and the uh Administrative Building H I didn’t hit the button [Applause] if you tried to join the previous stream sorry about that

Yeah Yi it rained a lot this morning um and it looks like it’s going to rain again in a little bit so I’m trying to sneak in a walk before it starts to get uh nasty again all right here’s the big lawn in front of the administrative building

Over here the building the low brick building the three or four story building there is the Gatten College of Business hey Hollywood what’s up yeah we’ll see if it holds off and it looks like we’re going to be in standard uh I think this is 720p and no widecreen today because I’m

Using the native YouTube app for the stream prism crashed uh Barack thank you for the one pound super chat that is very very kind of you thanks very very much extra motivation to keep on walking today we’ll have to wait just a little bit almost time and then we’ll walk

Straight up through the middle of the campus Here down this way down south clim there’s a lot of bars and restaurants and there is a uh UK basketball game today too so there’s probably what time is it it’s 12:30 there’s probably already some people out uh drinking and partaking uh we’re going to go ahead and go that is taking

Forever and there is no traffic in sight uh looks like a tour group up this way touring the university University of Kentucky EST established 1865 it’s a pretty campus and it’s uh pretty massive now it’s even grown in the years and years since I’ve been here let see I graduated

2001 yeah so how many years is that you do the math that’s a lot of years 23 years hey fairy elephant’s here what’s up fairy elephant good to see you the building on the right is uh advising where they can tell you what what degree to get undergraduate advising although I’m sure there’s

Advisers all over campus now Yari says 100 51 years for the University not since I’ve graduated fairy elephant just got home from work yeah so this is the like hey Mark’s here Mark good to see you thanks for the kind message and your comment the other day yeah this is the main Administrative

Building here it was refurbished after I believe a fire if I remember correctly but it’s looking good and straight ahead on our left is going to be the uh Patterson office tower there’s uh I think that School of Arts and Sciences has a lot of administrative offices in there and I

Even took some classes in there once upon a time straight ahead down this road Sidewalk Road is uh an engineering building it’s new since my time here we’ll go over that way in a second but first we’ll check out that’s Patterson office tower that believe it or not is the

Tallest point in Lexington proper not because the building is tall but because it sits on a hill so that makes it taller than the than the big blue building downtown and when I was in undergrad when I was in undergrad we used to go up to the top of there for

Events not sure if they still do that tour group deciding whether or not they’re going to go to UK and this is the whiteall classroom building a lot of undergraduate classes here and one of the things I remember about this building is the really heavy carved wood

Doors lot of kind of brutalist concrete architecture but I always thought the doors on the building almost look Polynesian isn’t that interesting and there’s that Engineering Building kind of looks like a boat with the Smoke Stacks just a lot of different styles of architecture on campus

Yeah I won’t be able to vouch for the quality of the picture today because I’m streaming from the Native YouTube app rather than streaming from Prism because prism gave me an err and I’d rather not go through the drama of connecting and reconnecting multiple times so if the quality is a

Little bit less than usual yall do have my apologies let’s go down in here and check this out I don’t think I’ve been in here and the YouTube app doesn’t tell me if there’s any Frozen stream or anything like that so it’s a subpar product for streaming which is really

Something they should think about fixing like all these nooks and crannies where you can study and oh cool Courtyard looks like it’s got a Wisteria yeah that’s really neat back here and another little Courtyard over here lot little nooks and crannies where you can study hey hey Gigi’s here Gigi long time

No see how are you thanks for joining the stream lots of Tours I guess Saturday’s a great day for it makes sense all right here I think this is the College of Journalism and also the home of the Kentucky Colonel which is the student newspaper founded in 1915

And we are walking towards the Funkhouser Building the funkiest building on campus but the funk Houser building I believe has billing like Financial Administration This is a really pretty walk in the springtime when the trees are leafy green and they added something to campus this year that I’m Keen to go check out which is they close down a section of Rose Street and put in a courtyard and seating area it’s up this way towards the library

And I’ll show you one of my little hidden spots that I used to study at when I was in college here this is uh the chemistry and physics building here expanded and updated and upgraded but uh see these little brick buildings here there’s a hidden Courtyard in between them and that’s

Where I used to study in between classes so we’ll go check it out see if it’s still as Charming as it used to be had a kind of a secret garden vibe to it back in the day may not be a secret anymore looks like these are new stairs up to it

Yeah there’s the gate in yeah not too different than it used to be some things never change there were a few more chairs here and there was a tree right here I think this is the International Center for international students it’s a pretty place all right here’s the section of rast

Street that they’ve now shut off and turned into a outdoor seating area looks like they’re still doing some construction around this area but let’s check it out oh look at these swings that’s pretty cool yeah wow so it looks like it starts up here that’s the med center in hospital

Down that way and it looks like you’ve got covered picnic tables got swinging chairs here they’re a little wet or else I’d try them out and then you’ve got a big nice yeah this used to be a road but now you’ve got all kinds of seating and big blue

Balls oh and some lights so this lights up at night that’s kind of cool and then this to the right here is how you walk down to the UN to the library so let’s do that the library here is probably the most impressive building on campus by a wide

Margin yeah lots of really cool seating areas now alumni Commons this is called I like it and here straight ahead is the library and it is a massive building there used to be an urban legend that when they built this building they forgot to account for the

Weight of the books and the building was slowly sinking because of the additional weight of the book it’s been almost 25 years so I think uh the urban legend is wrong but still entertaining heyy happy bunny here what’s up happy bunny great to see you but it is a massive just enormously impressive

Building and this field in front when it snows you can see the the the track marks there when it snows people will uh grab trays from the cafeteria and sled down the hill so it’s pretty cool here we are the William T Young Library at the University of

Kentucky a fairly impressive site I think all right let’s keep going yeah fairy elephant an excellent use of cafeteria trays a lot of smart kids and this is all housing now over on this part of campus housing and restaurants and these are very impressive dorms it costs about $15,000 a year to

Just live and eat so that’s the room and board price at the University of Kentucky so that’s about 7500 per semester the cost for tuition is less so if you’re an instate student I believe the cost with no financial aid to the University of Kentucky is about $133,000 a

Year so all in about $330,000 per year will get you a public university education undergraduate at the University of Kentucky out of state cost more and of course there’s financial aid available but that’s uh some pricey price pry pricey education so hope these kids are studying something that turns into a job that

Pays Gigi says I hear great things about UK good school I had a good time here it is indeed a good school and there’s some programs that are among the best in the country and overall I think one of the higher quality undergraduate degrees in this state but lots of investment major research

University graduate and undergraduate programs as you would expect one of the best agricultural schools especially equin agriculture horses in the country there we go there’s the library from the front there’s the Honors College the Lewis Honors College and I think the honors dorm is in there as well right across from the

Library and we got a food cord up here you can see Chick-fil-A on the corner let’s see what else they’ve got in terms of food options so I see Chick-fil-A what else do I see the Wildcat Pantry snacks and convenience door it looks like the 90 don’t know what that

Is welcome to the 90 maybe that’s the name of the whole complex yeah let’s see go big blue Rito Blue Agave Grill a dumpling place so yeah Zin Sushi Blue Agave Grill looks like some good options and then just all this up here is just a ton of housing just a ton look

How far back it goes all the way back there just dorm after dorm after dorm after dorm it’s a massive School and way off in the distance you can probably see the University of Kentucky football stadium see if this is any better I forgot the joys of live streaming Looks like we’re connected again sorry about that everybody you’ll have to let me know if the stream’s coming through thanks Mark appreciate it buddy already said the sound is wonky oh the joys of the YouTube app I’ll try and figure out what’s going on with prism

And get that sorted out before the next live walk everybody this is a new building it says pancakes shift for freshman free food tons of people looks like a church yeah it looks like they’re building a very modern looking church over there Yari says the sound is interrupting all the time h So we’re skirting the edge of campus right now and you can see kind of this edge of campus housing when we get down here to uclid we’ll hang a left and head down towards the Student Center a lot of fraternities over here and cheap apartments this is the kind of place

That I lived in when I was in school Dirt Cheap I paid $125 a month and I shared a bathroom and a kitchen with strangers oh they weren’t strangers for long but it was uh not something that I’d recommend but I got the all fraternities over here and sororities

Yeah really kind of a gray funky day I am excited that the 49ers are in the Super Bowl tomorrow so go ners Alpha Gamma row Omron chapter okay I did not do a fraternity when I was in school maybe we’ll cut up this street Here [Applause] we’re heading you can see the Patterson office tower up there we’re we’re heading right back towards the core of central campus ah Yi good I hope the sound is a little bit better yeah we’ll get that fixed next time uh they got a ticket Warning hey hey what’s up Rebecca great to see you yeah oh this all this very nice kind of old student housing back through here all rental properties some in pretty good shape some not so much all right we’ll walk down through some more fraternities and sororities here

And then we’ll get back on to the main drag and walk to the student center and also to Memorial Coliseum where the UK basketball team used to play every game and now the volleyball team plays there and the women’s team basketball-wise splits their games between rep and Memorial I could be wrong about

That nice old magnolia tree my fave oh lion statues another one of my faves all right we’ll hang a right up at the stop sign up here it’s a cute little house I don’t think I’ve ever noticed that one before it’s like it’s been around a long time but also looks well

Maintained there’s the Newman Center the Catholic Student Association in Chapel for [Applause] campus and if you all have any questions about the university drop them in the chat I’ll answer the ones I know uh straight ahead is the Performing Art Center College of Music is to our left across the street up

Here and the Performing Art Center the UK art museum is also in that building it’s called The Single ter Center for the Arts yeah so music right here Center for the Arts right here and then the tan building straight ahead is Memorial Coliseum and that’s where we’re headed over to right

Now I don’t know the story for this building straight ahead it says old Engineers residence but I don’t know what that means you have like a or [Applause] Not all right the one straight ahead now that’s the alumni building Yeah the career center and the alumni building the building dead center on your screen gray and brown Straight Ahead that’s where the University of Kentucky basketball team lives right next to their practice facility and that’s their home right there it’s really nice millions and millions of dollars in donations attracting the finest

Basketball players in the known universe that’s the Art Museum and the Performing Art Center down There and on the right that’s Memorial Coliseum and straight ahead on the left will be the Student Center ah very cool fairy elephant yeah I’m a basketball fan too mainly just for the University of Kentucky don’t watch the National Basketball Association much the NBA I keep up a little bit with how the

Kids do after they leave UK and go to the NBA I like it when they’re successful but I don’t really follow along much soccer and football football and football are really my thing Yari says I’m an NBA fan oh who’s your team Yi I don’t think I knew that yeah Memorial

Coliseum looks like they’re doing some work the Lakers ah good choice well then you cheer for a University of Kentucky Wildcat Anthony Davis there’s the UK wild cat right [Applause] there oh that’s cool Yi yeah Kobe was the best rest in [Applause] peace my watch says we have walked almost 2

Miles so that’s kind of fun so this is all housing on the the right and the University Student Center the Student Union on the left and if we’re really lucky we’ll see a delivery robot there are little tiny robots that deliver food on this campus it’s kind of neat

I’ve seen it a couple of times we’ll keep our eyes peeled but a lot of this is new from when I went to school almost everything on the right side of the road Fair Elfin says how many students attend each semester I’m not 100% sure but I want to say it’s got

To be at least 35,000 if somebody the Google machine up and running take a peek look at what the number of students at the University of Kentucky is and I’m sure that is inclusive of graduate and undergraduate and some students I would say are probably online students but it is a very massive

School somebody can correct me if I was off there but it is one of the larger schools it’s definitely the largest in the state of Kentucky I’d go inside here but I think that would wreck the signal but we can go right up here neat little seating Area and a UK that lights up blue at night blue and white are the colors of the University and I think there’s somebody dressed as Elvis down there yep we’ll zoom in because that’s what you do when you have an Elvis sighting never a dull moment and there’s the Starbucks inside the

University well it is good to be back with all all of y’all exploring walking around having some fun we’ll walk back towards the car now probably another 5 minutes on the stream today maybe a little longer there is just a lot of people living down here a very bustling Place uhhuh Mark says

23,000 I said 35 so I was off by 10,000 I wonder what the graduate count brings it up to another 4,000 or so so maybe like 30,000 total students of all disciplines combined thank you Mark appreciate that I overshot by a little looks like it’s going to start raining

Soon that’s the west where we’re headed and that’s where the weather comes from so we’ll just make our way back over that way big huge row of bars and restaurants over here Indian grocery now available that’s new mihawk mihawk 10% student discount lunch specials for $1 door Dash all right I’ll

Have to try that at some point I’m always good down to try a new Curry spot always down for a good curry Hassam says are you at the University of Kentucky I am that’s where we’re walking right now sir no doubt about it 13 12 will we make it yeah we’ll make

It yeah all right all right new Indian Place Cool Mark said did they build a sports complex where kwin Blanding Towers uh no no um they built um new dorms so they knocked down the old Kerwin Blanding Towers and they built new dorms so that was over by the library when we were walking over by the library the UK Esports Lounge

Okay interesting uh yeah Kean Hall my dorm doesn’t exist anymore either my freshman year I stayed in hegen Hall which has been knocked down and rebuilt so the name still exists but the old dorm is gone if you’re ever down here that’s an excellent taco place Straight Ahead really good good tasty tasty

Tasty all right friends we have reached the end of our walk want to thank you all for joining and we’ll keep up the walks sorry about that long delay if you missed the last stream where I explained it go check that out but we are back and better than ever

Thank you for joining me on the perfect walk and we will see you next time bye for now everyone

  1. My deepest thanks for this stream. It means a lot for me to remember my short weeks of summer school there. Thank you Klint… 😊

  2. Klint….. I was in the (downtown Lexington public) library all day, so I missed your stream. You walked my neighborhood and pointed at houses…
There is a lot of history about some of those houses. That white house across from the Newman Center is the parsonage where the priest of the Newman Center lives, so it is always kept up. The big blue house on Woodland on the right before you got to fraternity row, 27 minutes in (I still live near there)… students still rent that place out, and now I bet nobody knows…..That is the Trent DiGiuro murder house – Summer 1994. It was featured on America's Most Wanted – they showed up one day with 100 extras to film an episode – I just happened to go outside and found out. It was also featured on Dateline NBC. The killer was not caught for a few years until he confessed. The shot (3:30 am) woke me up but I fell back to sleep and forgot all about it, didn't remember for weeks. I heard the shot and immediately girls wailing.
