Trying America’s OLDEST Steakhouse | Old Homestead Steakhouse in New York City

Today we are on 14th and 9th in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District trying the oldest steakhouse in the country, Old Homestead. It has been here since 1868, making it nearly 20 years older than Keens and Peter Luger!

This burger is huge I can’t even see the bottom BN New York City steakhouses are iconic they’ve been around for a long long time but old H said has been around the longest it’s been right here on 14th and 9th across from Chelsea Market since 18 68 making it 20 years older than Keen or Peter Luger if it’s been in New York

City for that long it’s got to be good so let’s go check it out that F Min y burger sounds good I’m hungry this is our first time here but from what we’ve heard we had to try the Gotham rib steak it’s aged for 38 days

And is 24 oz so it’s pretty massive we also decided to get a burger they have a few to choose from but we decided to go with the fan Burger which is one of their best it’s 16 oz and they also have a 20 oz in case that’s not big enough

For you it’s the Kobe burger and looks pretty massive they aren’t really known for any other their side so we decided to go with a classic Caesar salad just to get some greens I am so hungry so I’m very excited one other interesting thing on menu is the Japanese A5 wagu Old

Homestead was actually the first and only Steakhouse in the entire country to be able to serve A5 wagu it’s a little out of our price range this time but maybe we’ll be able to try it the next time we come we just got our salad they split it

For us on two different plates and put some fresh pepper on it it looks delicious let’s give it a try the lettuce is so nice and crunchy just a really good classic Caesar salad and I feel like it’s perfect because it won’t get us too full

Before the state comes we got a lot of food coming that we need to save room for so I feel like this is the perfect way to start the more I eat the more I love the salad the dressing’s nice and light and the cheese tastes so high quality and

The Crouton are nice and crunchy it’s hard to review cuz it’s really just a Caesar Sal at the end of the day but it’s done really well well that salad was incredible great way to start the meum I also want to touch on the Ambiance it is so cute in here

Great date night spot or restaurant for Valentine’s Day or a special occasion it’s just so cozy we’re tucked in this little corner and there’s twinkle lights everywhere with the Christmas decorations it’s just so pretty I’m really enjoying it so far we just got our food and everything looks amazing

I’m going to start with a burger look at how massive this thing is I can’t imagine getting the 20 oz Kobe burger if this is this big but it comes stacked with onion rings there’s two sauces and some pickles I’m going to start with the burger but I’m going to take the onion

Rings off just so that I can attempt to eat it I can’t even believe like I can’t even see the bottom bun of this burger because the Patty is so big I also love how the Old Homestead logos stamp on the spun like what a personal touch I love

That let’s do this thing look at how big that Patty is where is the bottom bun I it looks really pretty but I can’t I can’t even see the bottom bomb it’s huge okay I know it’s so big I like I’m not going to be able to eat the whole thing

In one bite so I’m just going to go for the meat First Holy smok that flavor is unreal okay now I’m going to try to get everything let’s see that is incredible honestly I wasn’t sure how this is going to come out because I feel like when I hear fly M I

Tend to think like it doesn’t have a lot of flavor but that is actually unreal like it’s so flavorful it’s cooked perfectly you can see like it’s a little pink on the inside we got medium wear and there’s a little bit of an onion

Ring on top so you get a little bit more Crunch and that onion flavor the burger is like a little oily but so delicious oh my goodness it is incredible that is to die for I honestly don’t think I’ve had a better Burger now on to the steak it looks so

Good I’m going to move the onions to the side just because I want to look at that Char it looks pretty even to me and it looks like nice and crunchy on the outside the other side you can see there are more Grill lines but I love this

Nice even Char on top I know it’s going to be delicious so this is the Gotham rib steak which I think is a little bit of fattier of a cut and has this nice bone on it let’s give it a try it looks perfectly medium rare to me

More on the pink side than the pink brown side oh my goodness it’s like the more I eat the better it gets so first I tasted that nice and flavorful meat you get a little bit of the fat but it just adds that much more flavor it’s not super

Chewy or anything it kind of just melts to my mouth and that outside Char is unreal when you pair it with the soft meat meat in the middle and adds a crunch and like that much more flavor it is so so good I honestly think I’m going

To devour this whole thing they also gave us the steak sauce which I’m curious to try it with so let’s give it a go I’m going to put a little bit on my plate is this like the first time we’ve not known anything about the steak sauce

Yeah like I haven’t heard anything about the steak sauce from other people who have come here so very curious how this is going to be look at how perfect that meat color is once again like I don’t think I’ve seen a better medium rare so

I’ll put a little bit of steak sauce on let’s give it another try honestly not a big fan I think out of all the steak houses we’ve been to that’s my least favorite it almost tastes more like barbecue Saucy to me and it’s got like um like a fruity note aftertaste almost

Like Plum or something it’s like a dark berry aftertaste it’s good but I just don’t think it goes with the meat at all like it’s a really different pairing but let me try it again with a little bit of these frizzled onions that they put on

Top that’s really good I feel like add a little bit of onions and it just boosts the flavor that much more and you get a little bit more crunch so good well we thought this would be too much food but we pretty much finished everything I’m like trying

To scrape a few more bites off this steak it was incredible in terms of the ambian again again that I just want wanted to point out that I can’t believe it’s the oldest steakouse in the country cuz it really doesn’t feel like it I do really like the modern industrial feel

But it’s very different than like a keen or Peter Luger where that has a more oldw World feeling to it this is just more modern and like I think suits Chelsea Market area really nicely cuz it’s like a little bit more industrial I like it a lot it’s just different and

Like kind of not what I was expecting based on those massive portion sizes I would was expecting to have a little bit of food to take home and that’s when I was going to mention that Old Homestead was actually the first restaurant to have to go bags but we

Don’t have anything left so not this time it is chilly out here but thanks so much for watching if you like this video be sure to like And subscribe it really helps out the channel and we will see you in the next one

  1. Was there in 2014, tried their "Kobe" burger, not quite sure if it was real Kobe, based on the price, but damn, it was great!

  2. Now thats a good looking steak! congrats on the 2K, hope you both have a great xmas and new years!

  3. The thing is, Kristin. You are able to convey in such a discriptive manner, the essence of the food, and the feel of the restaurant so naturally and with such grace. You both, review and describe with such class. Guess I have eaten vicariously through you…… Thank you.
