FIRST CLASS on Japan’s Bullet Train (Osaka to Tokyo at 177MPH!)

Watch this video to see what it’s like to travel onboard Japan’s Shinkansen Train! This high speed bullet train is not only one of the world’s most famous trains, it’s also the world’s first High Speed Train!

In this video, you’ll see what it’s like to travel on the Shinkansen High Speed Train in the Green Car, which is similar to First Class. You’ll join us as we start in Osaka and travel north, to Tokyo. The 319 mile (514km) trip will only take about 2 and a half hours thanks to the high speed train!

We’ll hit speeds of up to 177 miles per hour as we zoom across the Japanese countryside.

We’ll explain exactly how we booked our tickets on the Shinkansen so you can do the same thing.

  1. Japan has really nailed high speed train travel. I would love if the US would have such a train zig-zagging across the entire continental USA, but it's very likely that it will never happen. America is too dependent on cars and airplanes.

  2. Green cars / first class is worthless. Only a seat. Same legroom as regular. No complementary food. No lounge. No good reason for the green car. It's garbage to be honest.

  3. For someone from UK who books holidays for the public. I'd say LA Or San Francisco to NY or Washington or down to MsY would fantastic for a fast rail service. Or to LAS Vegas as brighline plans to link the network upt to Mco

  4. boeing and airlines are actively lobbying against true HSRs in the US, that's why they wont come anytime soon.

  5. One of the HSR projects in the US (Dallas-Houston) is planning to use Shinkansen equipment. Hopefully it moves ahead!

  6. I'm sorry, but in British Columbia we have a health care crisis and its killing us there watching videos with a lack of life saving medications.

  7. Untethered heavy luggage located above is not a great idea..especially in a vehicle that is operating at 177mph.

  8. The Shinkansen is the best train ride I’ve ever been on. I Hiroshima to Tokyo and the whole experience was just effortless, I arrived totally fresh. Great video, I agree on the baggage, carting that lot through a busy station is no fun.

  9. Fantastic video guys!!😸 I think a true high speed connecting San Diego, LA, and the Bay Area would’ve been great!😸

  10. Jeb Fun Fact: Japan has designed their whole system to prevent failure and prevent crashes. Whereas in the United States we prepare for when a crash happens

  11. I was just in Tokyo last week and the trains were so cool! When I arrived home, I was so used to riding trains and planes that I almost got myself car sick.

  13. Strictly speaking… Green Car is more akin to business class, or domestic "first class" on non-transcontinental routes in the US. The real top-of-the-line service is Gran Class, although that is only available on a subset of routes in the JR East service area (the highly profitable Tokyo to Osaka section is run by JR Central, the same company that's self-funding the maglev train).

  14. Hi Jeb and Suzanne,
I’ve loved your videos since day one! They only get better since!
Here’s a video suggestion: I’ve also heard of China’s high-speed trains. Japan’s and China’s match in terms of speed. Can you do a comparison of both trains? I know it’s not your style, just do your best.
