Had the pleasure of participating in the famous Dontaku Festival with my classmates at NILS.

Dontaku comes from a Dutch word, “Zondag” which also means “Sunday”, or in this case “Holiday”. On this day, people from all over Japan gather to watch as residents fill the streets clapping rice paddles and playing shamisen. All in all, it’s a good day.

Music is by Kevin MacLeod, from the infamous incompetech.com.

  1. Another sweet video Mic. TuT tut forgetting the words 🙂
Should make a little video of bloopers 🙂 bet you have some 🙂 Are the windows still on 🙂

  2. Ahaha, no, it's raining today so my windows are off. 😉

And yeah, it's funny because these videos originally were to be the "behind the scenes" of my livejournal, which then evolved into their own little thing..

bloopers would be like 'behind the behind the scenes of my life."

  3. The Japanese celebrate anything and everything, fantastic.. and yes.. I would come for you.. And you have all of my love and trust!

  8. you know…i love watching your videos…i believe this is my first comment on them after so long of watching. they are so unprofessionaly professional or something. but they grasp a sense of realism and fun..but they are always so interesting to watch lol. thanks for taking the time to make them. i enjoy them as many others im sure.
and hopefully my second attempt to get out there will actually not fail halfway thru lol.
(love the music as always too)

  9. Ciaela, looks like you're having a great time in Japan. How long have you been here? I'm been here 30 years (came here in 1980), and I still have a buzz.

Some people here have bad breath. Ignore them!

  10. great I am also in Hakata. I was in Japanese language school before. And now I am in the Kyushu-univesity.
    NICE TO MEET YOU.

  11. This festival originates from Holland?
I'm from Holland, but I don't have any clue on what kind of holiday they copied this from!? Nevertheless I love your vids!

  13. wow.. this is really cool 😛
i'm from Holland, but i've never heard of this!!
i could be like a japanese version of our dutch 'Carnaval', that's around the end of februari every year.. people dress up and walk in parades and stuff.. it's much fun around here then:P

  14. ごめんね。
    誰のための祭り?
    私は地元じゃないから、分からない。
    でも、地元のの祭り、すごいよ。
    帰ってくるの来ないの?
    そこまで言うの?
    日本の祭りというのは、化け物だと入って言い。
