Cherry Blossom Season 2023 in Tokyo Japan Travel Tips

Cherry blossom season in Tokyo is
usually around the last week of March to first week of April. Here are major places to see the blooms.

– Ueno park, rows of cherry blossom 800 trees, street food, lake, hanami (picnic under the sakura trees), lighted paper lanterns at night, very crowded/ popular. 1 minute walk from Keisei- Ueno station or 2 minutes from Ueno station on JR/ Subway lines.

– Chidorigafuchi, beautiful, next to the palace, nice 800 meter walk under the blooming 430 cherry blossom trees, rent a small boat, come early full of people, nice dedicated walk path with Sakura trees along the way to Kitanomaru National Park. Located 5 minutes walk from Kudanshita station or Hanzomon station.

– Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden nice setting and 1000 large Sakura trees scattered around the park and many species (68). Located 5 minutes walk from Shinjuku Sanchome, Shinjuku Gyoenme, Sendagaya or Kokoritsu Kyogijo Station.
– Sumida park, riverside, Tokyo tower in the background, then walk 10 min to Senso-ji temple, with some Sakura in the temple complex. Located 5 minutes walk from Asakusa station.

– Meguro 4 km walk under 800 Sakura trees along the riverside, 9 minutes walk from Meguro station or next to Nakameguro station.

– Yoyogi Park has 700 trees, located 3 minutes walk from Harajuku, Yoyogikoen, Meiji-jingumae station.

Notes:
Tips for long day transit from Narita airport: take Keisei Line Sky Access Skyliner train nonstop to Ueno station, it is about 45 minutes trip, 2557 Yen. There are other cheaper alternatives, but changing platform/ station with large luggage is kind of hard in Japan, lots of stairs and not every station has elevators/ escalators.

Find luggage storage/ locker at the station (most stations have them), it can accommodate large luggage’s for up to 800 Yen/ day (automated). Then you can freely find your ways using Tokyo Metro or Toei Subways to other Sakura locations.
