Not all cafes and coffee shops open early in Japan, but there are some great options for breakfast! In this video I’ll show you 8 places to have breakfast, both in Tokyo and chain restaurants you can find all around Japan, including cheap options, take-away, traditional Japanese breakfast and vegetarian / vegan options. My favourite is Japanese bakeries – there are always so many delicious treats and different options from bakeries in other countries! Komeda’s Coffee’s a cosy coffee shop chain with irresistible, thick Japanese style toast – and pizza toast’s amazing. Yoshinoya’s a cheap chain restauant that offers beef rice bowls, but also has Japanese style breakfast in the morning – perfect for a budget trip. The convenience store’s the quickest and cheapest option, with bakery items, onigiri, fruit, sandwiches and yoghurts. Family restaurants like Royal Host, Dennys, Gusto or Jonathans are good for a sit-down breakfast. If you’re staying at a ryokan (a traditional Japanese hotel), don’t miss the chance to have a fantastic Japanese style breakfast. Some hotels offer breakfast buffets, but not all of them. I always love Coco Curry for a late breakfast, and if you’re hungry, head to a teishoku restaurant like Ootoya or Yayoi Ken.

natto wasnt bad tbh, and i agree blue cheese! I said that to the Japanese person who made me try it and they were so confused. But its the same fermented after taste.
That was super helpful๐๐ผ – thanks! Iโm sure I will make good use of it on my second trip ๐ Also I confess of being quite fond of natto ๐
Perfect timing, I leave for Tokyo tomorrow and was wondering what I was going to do for breakfast while I was there!
We ate at that Egg Slut in May -โlovely food we ate outside in the sun, rather put off by the old Japanese lady on the next table chafing the nappy of her tiny dog!
๐ฎ I just checked and there is a Komeda's Coffee on the same block as my rental apartment, yeesssssss…. I'mma eat ALL the toast.
I'm new here so please forgive me, but where did he get that Aggretsuko hat. She is my favorite Saniro character. ๐ป You see to much of her merch.
I usually just get a coffee and an anpan from the supermarket. That keeps me going till lunch. ๐
9:46 Don't tell me you don't know how to unwrap an onigiri ๐ญ
I so wanna make that sandwich w the pizza toppings on top
Nice video
I loved getting breakfast at the combini — an onigiri, apple slices, and coffee — I could have eaten that every morning of my trip. Bakeries are also a fantastic choice. I will try Komeda Coffee on my next trip.
My missus was panicking about brekky ideas and was convinced we would end up in the 7-11 every morning ! Thank you for this ๐
Thanks for the new video! It was great seeing all the different places you both had visited, and all the lovely food you got to try too!
Also saw the pose you did in the recent post too! ๐คช hehehe
What a great video! Thank you Amy! Weโre heading back late April so we will check out some of these. LOVED Coco Curry in Akihabara last time!
hmmm … instead of natto challenge yourself to eat kusaya … (^_^)
I find myself in Komeda way more than expected. A big bit is that theyโre open and itโs kinda kissaten adjacent. Love the woody vibes.
We loved the bakeries in Japan for breakfast. The soft doughy texture was amazing. I think the bakery at the start of the video was the one outside Shinjuku station we went to every morning! We also had the banquet breakfasts a few times which a world of discovery. Never quite got used to the savory egg custards! I think I miss the food in Japan as much as wonderful sights we visited
Ooooh, thankyou! I wanted more vegetables and traditional food options. A Lawsons coffee, pocari sweat and an egg salad sando is an initiation but options are mint!
Komeidas coffee, love their toast!!!
when i was in japan i ate really cheap breakfast , went to every local family mart and bought a famichicki and a bottle of water for 1,5-1,7 dollars every day XD
We tried a few of those places. Another one that was quite convenient for breakfast was a chain called Doutor.
U guys opened those onigiris so weirdly ๐ I just follow numbers 1, 2 & 3 on that wrapper ๐
in all the travel vlogs Ive been watching I never see cereal, is it even a thing in Japan. looks like ima have to adjust for my trip in March lol
You mentioned in the beginning of the video that you should have gotten one plate and shared it. So I wanted to ask you, have you ever had an issue sharing at an eatery over there? Like if we go to a Wendy's or a ramen shop. Those bowls of ramen are huge and we can't eat like that anymore. Would I be able to get a smaller side, munch on it and then switch plates? Thank you for all your videos, they've always been so helpful for planning.
Amy avoiding saying the name of that first bakery ๐คฃ
You have to follow the numbers to open a konbini onigiri. ๐
we have a few branches of Yayoi in Sydney Australia <3 also, I'm curious, is Coco Curry made on meat stock? (I get intense gut pain when I eat meat, other than seafood)
Nope. I canโt do natto ๐ ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Curry pan is our go to brekky when in Japan โค
Fun Fact: The locals call Komeda Coffee's katsu sandwich the "Komeda scam", as it's not what is pictured on the menu; instead, the actual sandwich is twice as big.
I think the sauce and ginger can be eaten with the tofu too.
I enjoyed coffee at Excelsior Cafe. Its a chain of coffee and food items.
omg that aggretsuko hat
you can try a local Teishoku restaurant.
Ohgod I miss Komeda so much!!
I love Shinjuku I usually go to Hoshino Coffee Nishi-Shinjuku or Akasaka Umaya Shinjuku but I like go to Sarabeth's LUMINE 2 Shinjuku to have egg benedict and right there in station
This was super useful, I'll be travelling to Japan soon and did not book hotel breakfast – mega pricey!
