Best Things to Do in Takayama, Japan #japantravel
So, you decided to avoid the crowds in Japan and go to Takiyama. Smart. But what are the best things to do? First, stroll down the old town. And this is home to one of the biggest morning markets in Japan. And Takyama is famous for the sake breweries. But this is the coolest place cuz you can get a mini sake cup from the gacha machine. And you can sample all the different flavors on the sake vending machines. But my favorite thing in the old town was actually the Showa card museum because it doesn’t even feel like a museum. Everything is interactive. It feels like you actually time travel to the Shawa era. But there’s more to Takyama than just the town because it’s a perfect home base to some really cool day trip. An absolute mustsee are these village houses with the thatch roof and the closest one is a 10-minute bus ride away at the hit folk village, but this is an open air museum. So, the houses weren’t originally here. So, if you want to go to an actual village where people live, then go to Shira Kawago. It will take you about 50 minutes. I went in summer, but I regret not going in winter. Looks like a real life winter wonderland. But if you go in winter, you won’t be able to go to Kamakoi, the Japanese Alps, which is only open from April to November. But this is one of my favorite places in Japan. The walking trail is so chill. From Takyama, it’s only a 2 and 1 half hour bus ride. I’ll go through the best places to eat in Takiyama in my next
