Our Japan Traveling Hot Takes (as people who live here) @TokyoTokyoOldmeetsNew

Why are people still doing these things in Japan? I can’t believe tourists are stopping Geisha on the street to take pictures. That is a working woman. She is on the clock. Like, if you want pictures with them, you should go to a performance or hire them for dinner like these giggy in Nigata. And why are people filling up their suitcases with plastic souvenirs that may not even be made in Japan? I mean, fridge magnets are all right, but hot take supporting a local business and making your own is just better. Personally, we’re big fans of making memories and souvenirs at the same time. It’s very economical. And as people living here, our hottest take is we’re not waiting hours for trendy food unless we make it ourselves. A 3-hour line for ramen. No, no, no. An hour and a half class on making soba. Yes. Yes. Yes.

  1. Oooh! Where did you make the cat statue thingy? What are those classes called? I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks so I can see if I can book something in

What you learned before moving to be a teacher, i know I have time but I want to prepare instead. Also how you learn the language better

Is it fine to come to Japan in flu outbreak
    How’s the situation over there

  4. When it comes to Geisha, I have to fight the urge to just take a picture because she’s pretty because I want to respect workers of all shapes and sizes.

  5. okay, but some of the gachapon machines have ancient sea creatures inside, like a dunkleosteus, so i have to do some of them

  6. I've only ever lived in Japan, and except for capsule toys, I've barely experienced any of these.
I might be told that I've wasted my time living in Japan.😂

But I wanna mention that geisha entertainment, at least, is limited to specific places and expensive, and it's something that most Japanese people don't usually experience.

  7. The only two reasons for me to visit Japan are ramen and bladesmithing. I would love to learn the traditional way to forge a proper uchikatana or nōdachi.

  8. Currently in Japan right now. Why wait in line at an onomiyaki restaurant for 90 minutes when there are literally dozens of others within a ten minutes walk from there that are just as good, but not "viral"? People should really dare to do do stuff that they haven't seen on TikTok… Same with sweets. They's ALL good, you don't have to go to that one shop that's totally overrun.
