Asakusa Local Good and Cheap Restaurant vs. Fancy Tourist Restaurant! August Travel Update Ep.589
[Music] Hey guys, today we are in Tokyo Station. Unfortunately, it’s raining today. According to the weather forecast focus, it will stop raining in hour though. Yep. Still It’s raining heavily. So, let’s stay in Tokyo station. As you may realize, there are many people using the foldable umbrella. Yes, it is really popular in Japan. So, if you are coming to Japan, don’t forget to bring the foldable umbrella. Oh, maybe some important people arriving to Tokyo. Oh, I’m not sure who he is, but it becomes very strict security in front of Tokyo station. Now, speaking of today’s temperature, it’s 30°, wind is 6 m/s, 72% humidity. Yes, finally it become August. So, in this video, I’m bringing you the oldest travel situation update. So, hope you can see the travel situation through this video. Oh, by the way, hey guys, welcome back to Ryan TV. I’m Ryan. Please don’t forget to check my Instagram, too. All right, so let’s search. So probably Ten Noka which is the Japanese emperor coming to Tokyo station and going back to their Imperial Palace. It will be all blocked this area and they are coming back to their house which is all the way down. Yep, it’s just over there. It’s raining. Let’s go back. Well, I’ve been waiting for a while, but it seems like even they hasn’t assert the security yet. So, probably it will take a while. Maybe we can see them next time. So, anyways, let me start the Japan travel situation update. So firstly, speaking of the Japanese yen situation, Japanese yen become cheaper and then now it reached $21 US for $150 Japanese yen for a fair rate, which is a pretty good news for travelers because even you spend the same amount of money, you can have a nicer dinner or hotel in Japan. Just cheaper Japanese value for travelers. Especially the inflation is coming to Japan. But still compared to other countries, it’s much better. So that if Japanese yen get cheaper, you can enjoy the travel with cheaper price. Oh, wait. It seems like rain has stopped. Sweet. Finally, it’s been raining from this morning. According to the weather forecast, from this afternoon, the rain will stop. But uh yeah, it took a while, huh? Since it’s not raining anymore, maybe we can wait here. You see the red carpet over there? That’s the special gate for Tokyo station. Only the VIP can use it. Seems like they are working so hard to clean it up. If you have visited Tokyo station, probably you know usually there are the pole so that we can’t go that area. Yes, those are the very special area. Seems like there are many people on the other side as well. Well, I’ve been waiting for a while, but no one is coming yet. Uh, I’m wondering how long I have to wait for. Oh, seems like so many police are coming over here. So, probably time is coming. Oh, so I see they are coming from there. So, are they the one? I’m not sure. Ah, they are over there. Oh, so they are just coming from the imperial police and the priest is over there. And now it becomes so many people and so many securityities. Well, eventually I had to wait like an hour. So if you see that line and blocking the way, but after they blocking the way, it will take a while. So if you want to wait, you got to be careful. This place is super crowded. Let’s go to the other side of the station. Now we are at Maruno exit and we are heading to the ice side. Uh now Tokyo station having a collab with Pokémon. There are so many Pokémons over here. They are having this temporary until August 31st. Nice. Station master Pikachu. Oh, the Kylo becomes a mega version. So is the Gyarados and the Garuda too. Mega evolution. Nice. How about the waiting time of the Shinkansen ticket office? Since summer vacation has started, there are more travelers. Oh, interesting. Now there is vacant no waiting time in here. Usually the downstairs one is more crowded, but downstairs one 30 minutes waiting. H Starbucks now having a peach seasoned drink and it looks so good. So before going to the Y side, let me grab it. There are several Starbucks over here but the closest one it’s just in front of the station entrance. So that’s the entrance of Shinkansen. If you are heading to north, you need to use the tooku shinkansen which is the green one. And if you are heading to west, you need to use that blue one, Tokaido Shinkansen. So here, this is the thing that you have to be careful. Starting from August 8th to August 17th, Nomi Shinkansen, which is one of the most popular Shinkansen. Starting from Tokyo to Hakata, stopping at Shinagawa, Shinyokohama, Nagagoya, Kyoto, Shinosaka, Okayama, Shinko, Hiroshima, Kokura, and Hakata. This is the fastest shinkansen heading from Tokyo to Osaka. It only takes 2 hours and 30 minutes. And if you are using this shinkansen, you need to make the reservation around those season which is one of the most busy season in Japan. We call that obong holiday week. On the regular days they have a non-reserved seed. However, those season they only have to reserve the seed and also it will be super crowded. So if you are visiting Japan around those season and you are planning to using the no shinkansen make sure to reserve the seat as early as possible otherwise you know you can’t find a seat they occasionally have this restriction so if you are visiting Japan make sure to reserve the seat it is same as the year end as well and if you have the extra large size luggage which is bigger than this luggage size you have to make a special reservation for that so you got remember for it. So that’s the Shinkansen entrance and the Starbucks is just over there in the second floor. Probably it’s already ready. Oh yeah. Here we go. Let’s go. Sweet. Looks pretty good. And the center is the Osakos mascot and the center is the Nara. Let’s go upstairs. This is one of my favorite spot side of Tokyo station. Usually there’s a availability for the seat. It is the nice area. Not that popular. There are the restaurants. Many empty seats. And here we go. Yes, seats available. Oh yeah, it’s already starting but it’s okay. I always enjoy Starbucks seasonal drink. And you know what? Finally, they stopped using the paper wine. Now they’re using the plastic wine. It’s much easier to drink. Anyways, goodbye. [Music] Nice peach and the whipped cream flavor. Perfect for summer. Loving it. So, let me share about the August travel situation update. As I explained in that Shinkansen area, there is a big holiday coming in Japan starting from 8th of August until the 17th of August. Those mid August area is the one of the busiest season called Obong holiday. It will be one of the most crowded time in Japan. So if you don’t like the crowded places, definitely you want to visit those seasons. However, not only the negative thing, also there is a positive thing as well. It will be super crowded everywhere in Japan. However, there will be so many event all over Japan. Yes, the summer mati festival season and also the fireworks festival season. During the August starting from 2nd of August to 7th of August, the Alway Prefecture’s Neputa Matsuri Festival which is one of the most famous Matsuri festival in Japan will be stirred and also 3rd of August to 6th of August, Akita Prefectures Kanto Matsuli Festival and also if you are visiting Kyoto during the mid of August in 16th of August they have a Okuri which is uh not like the festival however it’s a huge event they will place the fire in the mountain it’s not like the super crowded you know food stall festival not like the fireworks but it’s more like the quiet however nice Japan atmosphere festival you will enjoy the okuri of doni which is very Beautiful. So if you are visiting Kyoto around those season, don’t forget to check that also mid of August. Yes, Fukushima. You know the summer festival, we have a special traditional dance called the bongi. It’s like that. There is a huge traditional dance party over there. There are so many people dancing together and they also having the dance show as well. It’s very interesting around those season those area will be super super crowded. However, very interesting place. I’ve never visited there. So hope one day I can visit or maybe this year. We’ll see. And speaking of the fireworks festival, there is a Yodawano Hanabi which is one of the most popular fireworks festival in Osaka. I have made a video. Please don’t forget to check that. And also the Sumida River fireworks festival is coming as well. Yep. There are so many Matsui festival. The reason why is because of the Obam is a traditional event to honor ancestors. It is a kind of a traditional culture. Many people going back to their hometown and praying for the ancestor, gathering together and eating together and drinking together. That’s what usually happens. So that’s why many people working in Tokyo, they are going back to their hometown. So that’s the reason why it will be super crowded in Shinkansen. Many people who works in Tokyo, they are going back to their hometown and praying for the ancestors gathering together by the Shinkansen. So some people even make the reservation like the you know several months ago, even the half a year ago. Well, of course, there are bunch of shinkansen, but if you want to take the reservation in the specific day, it will be super crowded. So, make sure to reserve the shinkansen if you are visiting during that time. Also, if you are coming to Japan, don’t forget to bring this foldable umbrella. It is very useful. In Japan, there are so many sudden rain udi. So the portable umbrella it becomes very useful. Also at the same time this foldable umbrella can be the parcel too. Well in Japan it’s super hot and the strong sunshine. So the parcel is very popular in Japan now. Well ideally it’s the white one but I’m using the black one. So if you are not facing to the sudden rain it becomes very useful. If you check on the internet you can find it with the very cheaper one. So especially if you will visiting Kyoto those places you have to walk a lot outside. So make sure to bring the parcel you know even for men too. Trust me if you have a parcel much cooler you know it’s much better heat. So if you visiting Japan during the summer season, yeah, think about it. Try to get the parcel the affordable one. You can buy it with the Amazon about, you know, 1,500 to 2,000 Japanese yen, which is not that expensive. And you can place it in the backpack, too. So that’s my travel tip. If you are visiting Japan, yeah, just bring the umbrella for the saddle lane and also as a parcel. Yes, it’s very convenient. So those are the things that you have to be careful during the August travel and that’s it August travel update and now we are visiting the asaka and I will show you guys how the asaka looks like during summer vacation season. All right so let’s go. By the way I love to drink. This side of Tokyo station it is the first terminal area. If you’re taking bus, you need to come over to this yada. It has a beautiful view from here. All right. So, let’s go to Asaka. From Tokyo station to Asaka. There are several ways to get there. But firstly, we are heading to Kanda. Kanda is the next station of Tokyo station. Only one station away. Inside the Tokyo station, there are many restaurant and a souvenir shop. So even if you can’t find the store outside, you can always find inside the Tokyo station too. One thing you have to keep in your mind is that you can’t enter the Tokyo station without the train ticket. So if you are using the Tokyo station, you can come inside and you can check up the restaurants and the stores, but otherwise you can’t enter. You need to pay for the entrance fee. So you got to be careful. So using the chew line It’s already super crowded. Oh, that’s the one. Yes. So, we are here in the Kanda at the next station. Only takes 2 minutes. All right, we arrived to Kanda station. Now, we need to change the Ginsa line, which is the Tokyo Metro. If you go one more station, it will be Akihabara. So, it is a station between Akihabara and the Tokyo station. Kanda station is also a big station. There are so many companies around here too. Super crowded. From Tokyo station to Kanda Station, it cost 146 Japanese yen. And for Ginsa line, basically you just need to follow the sign. Most likely you don’t get lost. Even it’s your first time to visit Kanda Station. And it says to Asaka, track number two. It’s about 1, two, three, four, five, six, six stations away. By the way, Ueno is four stations away. So, Asaka is far compared to Ueno. I hope the train is not that crowded, though. Oh, yeah, that’s the one. And yep, that’s crowded, of course. Still better compared to the super rush hour time, though. All right, finally, we arrived to Asaka. So, let’s go to the Kamarim Gatorade. From Kanda Station to Asaka, it cost 178 Japanese yen. Still 6:00 p.m., so probably outside it’s not dark yet. Unless if it’s not raining. Yep, seems like it’s not raining. It’s Friday night, so must be more and more people here. Here we go. We are at Tamil Gate. Oh, actually maybe because it was raining much fewer travelers. It is the summer vacation time. So this place could be super crowded. But since it was raining, much much fewer people than what I thought. It’s still a little bit windy. But uh perfect time to travel, huh? Some store is already closed because it’s almost 6:00 p.m. but still there are many places open. If you want to enjoy the Nakam streets atmosphere with the shops, daytime is much better. However, if you don’t like the crowd or if you don’t like this super hot summer day, maybe you can visit in the night time. After they close all the stores, this place becomes very quiet and also you can take a photo of very cool photo over here. So that’s always the option. I recently bought a 360 camera. It’s the Osmo 360 start selling since yesterday. I just placed order and I haven’t received yet, but uh I’m so excited to try one. Last time when I visit the Mako Island, I realized that I need a action cam and also 360 camera because I just have a old GoPro. Always when I’m driving, I had to flip it, you know, flip it, flip it, and flip it while I’m filming in the car. If I had the 360 camera, it will be much easier to film. And also, I can film beautifully at the ocean as well. So, that’s why I decided to get one. Yes, more and more troubles is coming and you guys will enjoy the 360 view in the future videos. So, please look forward to it. Already rain has stopped. So, the sec passing over here. Here we go. We arrived to Asakas temple and wuno over there. So beautiful. This misf by the ocha was very important stuff during the hot summer daytime but that’s already stopped working now. Let’s go inside the sensor temple too. I love the atmosphere of the sunset time. Very peaceful. It’s already 6:00 p.m. So, the temple is already closed. But still, there are many people in front of the temple to pray. Beautiful view. Usually, there’s a food stalls over here, but since it was raining, no food stall neither. Let’s go to the hoppy street. Since it’s a Friday night, I believe there must be so many people over there enjoy drinking. We can just keep straight and the street. I thought this place could be crowded too, but uh after they close the store, not at all. Huh. I’m just wondering where are all the travelers are. And here we go. We arrived to Hoppy Street. Oh, I thought already there are many people over here, but seems like very quiet, you know. Probably because Oong, which is a big holiday is coming. So maybe many people are saving money for the big holiday. Yep. Many people looking for the customer. Yeah, it’s very interesting. You know usually early of December there will be much fewer travelers because people are saving money and the time for the year and the travel. So I think it is the same thing happening over here. Many people are saving money and the time for the open which is the biggest holiday in Japan. So yeah it’s very quiet again. The summer break already started. So there must be many travelers from all over Japan. But it seems like there are only international travelers over here and then not that many locals. Yeah, interesting. How about in the other street? I haven’t eat the lunch yet. Let’s find something to eat. Oh, now Katya has a new menu item with tonki and the chicken katu. That sounds good. But seems like it’s a small store, so I don’t think I can film inside though. A Shogun burger here. I always wanted to try this Shogun burger. Why not? Let’s do it today. Seems like it’s clouded later. Seems like this is the limited one over here. Mushroom demiggrass burger. Interesting. All right, why not? Let’s do it. Oh, so seems like those are the menu items. Compared to the other burger restaurant, it’s pretty pricey, huh? It’s a fancy burger. Let me see. Oh my goodness. That triple cheeseburger looks pretty good, but the price is 3,980. H. So, they have a Japanese menus and English menu items. So, let’s do it for here. And which one is it? Oh, they have a burger for kids. Interesting. And a double cheeseburger. Triple cheeseburger. Which is the special one? Let me see. Oh, here’s a recommended one. And Oh, yeah. This is the one. So, let’s do this one here. Wait, I don’t understand. If you go with this soft drink, it 320 Japanese yen, but for the alcohol, 220. Will it be cheaper? Really? Let me let me make sure. Oh, I see. So, actually for the drink plus the fries and the 200 Japanese yen. So, you have to buy the alcohol drink and you can add the fries for 200 Japanese yen. That’s why it’s cheaper. It makes sense. H They have a nice table seat over here. And also Naruto manga over here. Ah, they have a nice seat over here. Why not? Let’s sit down over here. So many drawing over here. And God bless you. Hey, man. Oh, Pikachu over there, too. So, eventually I decide to order only the burger because it cost 1,980 Japanese only for the burger. If I add the fries and the drinks, it becomes like 3,000 something. Well, maybe for the world standard and it’s a regular price, but compared to the other regular burger prices, pretty pricey. So, let me try. Well, hopefully it’s good. All right, here we go. Wow, nice. Oh my goodness. Actually, it is huge. There are so many mushroom inside. I love mushrooms. I’m excited. All right, so [Music] [Music] The breads are pretty soft and really juicy meat perfectly matches with mushroom and this barbecue sauce or teriyaki sauce. I’m not sure what kind of sauce it is, but my choice. Yeah, it is a restaurant style burger. So of course compared to the fast food burger restaurant it is more expensive. Yeah it totally makes sense. Now as you guys know compared to the other country in Japan the burger restaurant it’s not that popular. The most of the burger restaurant is the fast food restaurant. So you know this kind of a restaurant fries burger is not that popular. So for Japanese I believe it feels like more expensive. However, for the people from the different country, probably yeah, the price is reasonable, especially if the taste is good. [Music] I know. Maybe you were like, why Ryan, don’t you order the fries and the drink at the burger restaurant? Well, it totally makes sense. However, you know, if you are the Japanese, probably you understand how I feel about it. interesting. Uh the C is pretty big. One burger definitely it makes you sold out. Oh maybe demigras. Yeah. That was pretty good. Well, speaking of price, yes, still it’s pretty fancy for me. So maybe in the special occasion next time I will try that the triple juicy cheeseburger which cost about like you know 4,000 Japanese yen including the drink it cost about 5,000 Japanese yen but I believe it worth it. So let me try in the future. But I just came back from the island and I had to spend a lot of money over there. So maybe next time though. But finally I could try the shogun burger. So it worth it. So let’s keep eating and let’s keep walking. Oh my goodness, clouds move super fast and also the sky becomes totally yellow. Let’s keep walking in the Hagoi arcade. It’s the nice local atmosphere arcade. Oh my goodness, the sky is burning. One of the most beautiful sky recently I seen. I think because it was raining. Very beautiful. Well, I thought I’m full. Maybe because of the price, but I think I still can eat it. Let’s find something to eat it. Now, we are in the back street of Asaka. How about this restaurant? Oh, they have a sashimi set menu 1,680 Japanese yen. And also on the weekday, they have a happy hour 299 Japanese yen for the alcohol beverage. Oh, I didn’t know there’s a roaming restaurant over here. Looks pretty good, but it’s just too heavy for me. And uh Indian food restaurants also. Oh, Thai food. Oh, seems like it’s a local nice restaurants. I want to try pai over here. That looks pretty nice. It’s a drinking bar. Isakaya Kaboa, the pumpkin. Interesting. We came back to the street of Hanayashiki. since outside gets darker. So much fewer people over here. Still 7:00 p.m. though. Well, it’s because it’s a super windy day. Lanterns and the Ning. It’s moving so hard. How about in the arcade? This back street has some very cool atmosphere. And I believe this arcade not that many people need. Yep. It became like a ghost town already. Still, it just became 7:00 p.m. though. Let’s go check out the Nakam Street, too. I always show you guys the atmosphere of Asaka during the daytime, but at night time became like this. Hope it’s interesting for you guys, too. Let’s keep walking. Oh, the Tokyo sky tree. But in front of the sky tree, there is a big crowd. So, it looks like a little bit smokeoky. It looks kind of mysterious. I’m wondering how it looks like from inside of Tokyo Sky Tree though. Interesting. Now we came back to Senoj Temple. Still there are many people waiting for praying the temple and also many travelers in front of the temple too. How about Inakam Street? You know what feels like there more travelers? Huh? Even the store is closed. Maybe because it’s a Friday night or maybe because it’s still 700 p.m. or maybe it was raining today so that many people couldn’t go out. Now it is time to go out. Huh? Even it’s Friday night. When it becomes 1000 p.m. it will be very quiet now. So here Ryan’s fun trivia time. So actually this Nakamisa street is built in dating back over 300 years ago. It was originally built when the local residents are allowed to set up the stalls as a reward for helping keep the temple ground clean. Because of that tradition, those stalls rent are much much cheaper compared to other places in Asaka. Until 2017, they were only paying 23,000 Japanese yen or so. Yes, 23,000 Japanese yen. That’s incredibly cheap. Yep. Of course, no one will move out because you know they have a old traditional ride. Well, unfortunately because of the unfairness and it becomes very popular. So that now it becomes the fair price which is 16 times more compared to the previous rent. Now they are gradually increasing the rent price but still it’s much cheaper compared to the regular place. Well, maybe if they were keeping the food price and the souvenir price lower compared to the regular places because of the cheaper rent, no one would complain. But, you know, because of that incredibly expensive prices for the incredibly cheaper rent place. Yep. Of course, everyone will be angry except the store’s owner. [Music] Hopefully, it was a interest fun trivia. I will try to keep giving you guys a trivia in the video. So, if you haven’t, please don’t forget to subscribe to the channel, too. All right, so let’s keep walking. Now, we came back to the Kamalong Gate. Still so many people taking a photo in front of the Kamalong gate. Ah, sweet. I always wanted to come over here. They have a beer set menu items. So, one drop beer and you can pick two kinds of those small dishes and only cost 1,265 Japanese yen. Seems like no waiting time. So, why not? Let’s try. So, this is the one. They have so many different kinds of menu items. Oh my goodness. Which one should I try? They have a small cart and then also the big fried shrimp. mini saline steak looks pretty good too. And the avocado with the cheese pork steak also. Ah, this mushroom sauté looks good. And oh, the avocado tempura. That must be good, too. Can’t decide. All right, here we go. The food has arrived. some beer, steamed chicken, plus the cheese with avocado and the shrimp. So, all of those menu prices less than 1,300 Japanese yen. This place is kind of noisy. Hopefully, everyone can hear me though. Anyways, so it’s the steamed chicken. It looks pretty good. It’s a little bit spicy steamed chicken. Perfect with beer. And this one, it’s shrimp with avocado and the cheese. It must be good. Nice smell of the mayonnaise. mayonnaise in the cheese. Always good with shrimp. And it’s my first time to try with avocado, but it tastes pretty good, too. You know, I can’t eat a big fish, so to eat it. either dory or some kind of snack with beer. So, this is perfect. Now, well, according to the internet, this restaurant is very popular for the good and cheap hamburg steak. But I’ve never tried the hamburg steak here. So, maybe in the future I can come back here and try the hamburg steak, too. Yeah. [Music] Seems like this restaurant it’s really busy. There are so many customers but only local here. I don’t see any international travelers. So maybe if you want to try the local atmosphere, you can try it over here. Maybe because it’s also you know the Friday night. So that’s why there are so many people coming over here. Yeah. Now there are more people waiting. It’s a nice local restaurant. So including the beer, the price was less than 1,300 Japanese yen. Well, speaking of the taste, of course, it was not the best of the best, but you know, it’s a local style good and cheap family style isakaya taste. So if you want to enjoy that kind of atmosphere, definitely I recommend it. This is the street of Nakami street. You can just keep straight from the Kamalimon gate toward to left and keep straight. It’s like 5 minutes walking from Kamalong gate, but not that far. All right. So, hope everyone enjoys the Japan travel update of August and the local walk of Asaka. Every area of month, I’m making the travel update and trying to tell you guys, you know, what’s new in Japan. So, if you are planning to visit Japan in the future, please don’t forget to subscribe to the channel. And if you enjoy the video, please don’t forget to hit the like button, too. It will really encourage me to keep shooting videos. And a big thank you to all of my Patreons. If you haven’t, please don’t forget to check my Patreon account, too. Well, speaking of that restaurant, the Shen Burger, super fancy Wagu Burger Restaurant, and compare to the good and cheap local drinking restaurants. To be honest, the taste definitely the shogun burger was better, but those two are totally different genre and I like both. If you are traveling to Japan, which one would you prefer to eat? Please let me know in the comment. Anyways, hope everyone enjoys the video and more videos are coming. So, please look forward to it. So, see you soon in the next video. Have a great day. Bye-bye. I spent 3 months in Japan this year…my biggest expenses while travelling were:
1. Multiple daily different color melon sodas purchases.
2. Buying iphone chargers coz I lost them or left in hotel.
3. Buying Umbrellas: coz I lost them or left in hotel.

Asakusa and Minato are by far my favourite areas in Tokyo. I am in Tokyo at the moment and went to Shibuya today. Feels like a theme park to me. Watches the crossing from Hoshino Cafe. Some people went back and forth 4 times and some of them were still on the crosing when ist was already red lights. This would annoy me so much as a local dealing with this bs.
