Now loading the video…. November 28th, 2023 Asakusa, Tokyo, Japan Asakusa is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tokyo In Asakusa, you get to immerse yourself in the old Japan Asakusa Station From Asakusa, we move to a hot spring village in Tochigi Prefecture, Kinugawa Onsen where we are staying at Asaya Hotel

We take an express train, Liberty Kegon, which takes us there in about 2 hours The train has a cool face like Transformers The cleaning staff are bowing to the train! The fare from Asakusa to Kinugawa Onsen is 3,230JPY/22.6USD We left at 2:30PM

When leaving Asakusa, don’t miss the view of Tokyo Skytree(the tallest building of Japan) and Sumida River Great urban scenery Enjoying the tranquil train window views on the way to Tochigi Prefecture Today’s destination, Kinugawa Onsen is located roughly in Nikko area which is well known as a summer resort

The area has some World Heritage Sites and beautiful natures in awesome settings Rich people own second houses in Nikko and stay several weeks there in summer 4:39PM Thank you Transformers train We arrived at Kinugawa Onsen Station In front of the station, there is a free-of-charge public footbath

Heal your tired body from a long day travel From the station to hotels, there is a direct bus running Tell the driver your hotel name and pay 200JPY/1.4USD By the way, Kinugawa Onsen was once one of the two major hot spring areas accessible from Tokyo, along with Atami Onsen

During the Economic bubble of Japan(1986 to 1991), the resort received 3.6 million of visiters a year But, after the Economic bubble ended, the resort never had a chance to get back the turnout only to find that it left so many hotel ruins in the area

However, our hotel today, Asaya Hotel was not one of them Asaya Hotel is the hotel that I’ve longed to stay at In about 10 mins, we arrived at the hotel entrance For this stay, I(one person) booked one room which includes 2 meals at “46,200JPY/323.4USD” I had to pay 2 persons fee

Hotel staff kindly guides me to my room on 8th floor So thrilled! Wow amazing… It’s a Japanese traditional hotel(Ryokan) room The entrance is separated from the main room Take your Yukata(hotel wear) from the closet There are 4 sizes(from S to XL) available Bath towels and stuff what is this

It looks like disposable socks Toothbrush and stuff in the bag Air purifier Shoe polisher Keys pouch Accessory tray Wi-Fi A welcome snack Their specially selected snack Japanese-style cookie with Azuki(red beans) inside I’m lovin’ it It’s time to check the window views I forgot that the outside was already dark Washbasin and a bathroom

Toilet is completely separated from the bath, nice Checking toilet Spacious enough and clean A ghost toilet It’s a Washlet (Japanese standard toilet) which sprinkles up water to cleanse your butt Change water pressure and stuff

There is also a function that encourages the urge to defecate through the massage effect of hot water to your butt! Like western luxury hotels, there is a minibar Coke, Ginger Ale, Pocali Sweat, Beer, Lemon Sour, and Highball are sold Complimentary tea Welcome drink Drip coffee

The hotel has a very unique and complicated layout The reception desk is on the 6th floor The hotel is composed of 2 ridges There are 3 public and 4 private hot springs with bars, restaurants, and other in-hotel entertainments Visiters say “Stepping into Asaya Hotel is like stepping into the world of Ghibli”

The gorgeous soaring lobby surrounded by hotel rooms from 3rd to 12th floor What a luxurious space! You see three glass eleavors smoothly move up and go down I’ve never seen any hotel like this before There is a lobby on the ground floor Pipe organ is automatically playing here A bit creepy

On the 6th floor, there are a clothing store and souvenir shops like a shopping mall inside the hotel Some antique items are in display here and there in the hotel We’ve also got some vending machines Here are tobacco and alcohol vending machines! Alcohol one does not require age check, but tobacco does 7:31PM

Dinner time! It’s a buffet style I’ve been waiting for this haha So many cooks are stationed! They have a pizza bar Spaghetti made on the spot Tempura Steaks Sushi Sashimi(seafoood) More and more dishes to choose As far as I know in Japan, Asaya serves the greatest hotel buffet! Variety of home-made juices

Rice serving robot Nicely done OH MY GOODNESS I ordered Sapporo beer Kanpai (Cheers) hehe I also took Nabe(pot meal) Chickens and mushrooms nabe Desserts! and it’s Häagen-Dazs! All-you-can-eat expensive ice creams… Many more desserts! Thank you Asaya! I realized the door was not locked They make a futon during you eat dinner

Futon is a traditional Japanese hotel style where you sleep on the floor Let’s just explore the hotel for fun Out of service escalator Oops Strange feeling Here is a Karaoke bar But seems like no one here (8:40PM) Billiards No one

Other than the buffet restaurant, there are 3 bars and 1 ramen restaurant in the hotel But I guess that they are closed The ramen restaurant is open But my stomach is already full! Oh, this is the one in Roman Holiday! The movie one was a lie detector but this one does fortune telling

Looks like the machine was made in Italy SUSPICIOUS This fortune telling encouraged me a lot, thanks Found a discarded Stitch Arcade! No organism detected I enjoyed myself a lot Changed into Yukata garment The hotel has many hot spring baths but if you pay 2,000JPY/14.0USD extra, you can use a private bath

There are 4 private baths Find “丁子” bath Here You open a slide door like entering a traditional Japanese house Much more spacious than I thought I booked the “Hinoki Bath” which makes a good scent of Japanese cypress(tree) itself We Japanese cannot live without Onsen(hot spring)

Here are horse oil shampoo, treatment, and body soap The hair dryer must be an expensive one Luxurious hair dryer The use of private bath comes with complimentary hot tea Time to sleep (11:41PM) I prefer a futon to a bed probably as I’m Japanese A bit scary Good morning (7:52AM) Breakfast! I’m now starving

Again, a lot of cooks! Breakfast serves a lot of bread options Waffle! There are of course a lot of Japanese dish selections A lot of seafood Omelette made on the spot You can make eggs Benedict My first time trying eggs Benedict… Different kinds of meals in one

This is not the right portion for breakfast! I loved it so much I can tell that I had all needed nutrients for a day at this breakfast After this breakfast, I wasn’t hungry until the evening It’s around time to check out I lastly checked out the window views

And I found that the hotels on the other side of the river were all ruins But this tells this Onsen town had once millions of visiters and was a big resort This Asaya Hotel meanwhile attracts a lot of people from all around Japan This stay has become an unforgettable experience to me

Stay in Asaya Hotel is one of my top recommendations to do in Japan I after that went back to Kinugawa Onsen Station by bus Walk 10 mins from the station and you get to a footbridge in a beautiful setting Kinutateiwaotsuri Bridge The autumn leaves of the mountain trees are very charming

The bridge shakes a bit but the views from the bridge is worth fear of heights Under the bridge is Kinugawa River Breathtaking views spread out before you There seems to be an observation deck up the mountain so I’ll try go there The path feels a bit creepy ME Reached the observation deck!

We can overlook the bridge and river and the town Nice Near the bridge, there is Furukama Falls Two small waterfalls I can feel a sense of meditation here This is what we do not want to see while walking on the bridge Came back to the station Time to leave the town

On the way back, I took a steam locomotive train leaving at 3:05PM and bound for Shimo-imaichi Only 39 min ride though The train name is Taiju and it operates every day between Kinugawa Onsen, Shimo-imaichi, and Tobu-nikko The steam locomotive arrives!

There are not many steam locomotives left in Japan so this is a very rare opportunity Cool cool I’m getting very excited Let’s get on board The train is composed of 3 coaches Cabin has a traditional-style seat configuration This train ride is also like in a Ghibli world oh, or Galaxy Express 999

A sales trolley comes to your seat Only souvenirs and snacks though They gave me a post card A short message from the attendants I bought an ice cream! Black Icecream, 320JPY/2.2USD made of Asphalt or something? It’s actually soy sauce and I love it so much

The window views are tranquil and beautiful through Nikko The train company employees are waving a hand at us! and locals! Thank you for watching the video today If you liked the video, please leave a like and some comment! Rock, Scissors, Paper 1 2 3 “Rock” See you soon in the next travel!

  11. Ok I used to like your honesty about traveling but after you saying sleeping in a smoke filled lo cker was a great option and now this dated propaganda video? Makes me question where this is all coming from…good luck in the future

  12. 17:25 As Mitch Hedberg used to say: An escalator can never be out of order, it can only become stairs. "Escalator temporarily stairs, sorry for the convenience!" 🤣
