札幌市内から中山峠を通り、喜茂別町を経由して支笏湖方面に向かう道、喜茂別町の国道276号線、道道695号線からは、尻別岳と羊蹄山が同じ形で並んで見えるポイントがある。その昔、アイヌの人々は向かって左にえる尻別岳を雄山、右に見える羊蹄山を雌山と呼んだ。また尻別岳を前方羊蹄山、羊蹄山を後方羊蹄山と称することもあった。二つの山を称して「夫婦山」「双子羊蹄」と呼ぶこともある。尻別岳の標高は1,107ｍ、羊蹄山は1,898ｍであるから、尻別岳の方が近くに見える場所であることが分かる。また喜茂別町から小樽方面に向かうと京極町からは、この二つの山の見え方、形や大きさ、高さが変わって見える。
There are places where Mt. Shiribetsu and Mt. Yotei appear to have the same shape and height. Since Mt. Shiribetsu is 1,107m above sea level and Mt. Yotei is 1,898m above sea level, Mt.
