  1. Hey Doug, interesting video! I guess personally, I haven’t had to think about it much probably due to the fact that my main airport is a hub airport MSP and there tends to be a lot of international flights out of there. I guess if I was in a smaller airport. I probably wouldn’t enjoy it very much simply because I don’t think I’ve ever truly enjoyed travel for travel sake it’s always what needs to be done to get to where I’m going. So the less travel the better. For instance, I always look for nonstop flights over connections if possible. I definitely appreciate the question. And thanks for the thought experiment

  2. My family don’t mind them as long is not an early flight 1am-9am as long they can wake up and have breakfast I’m good to go😂 I do agree that in most cases is an inconvenience. My son likes them because he don’t like long flights the same day. Great video Doug! Keep up the great work!🫵

  3. I definitely hear what you are saying. However, sometimes you just have to do what you got to do to get where you want to go haha.

  4. As someone based in Hawaii, I get that it needs to happen to get to Europe. What irritates me is when I want to fly to Asia/Oceania, I have generally less options and many programs try to route you to SFO first before going to Auckland. The options we do have in some cases cost more miles even though I’m several thousand miles closer.

  5. Good point. Keep the pet-peeve reality checks coming. I’ve gotten around a similar issue by developing a routine. Coming back from Europe the last two times, we had to fly KLM and reposition through AMS. We get into AMS around dinner time and fly out early the next day. So we have a seafood restaurant in the city we really like, and we stay at the hotel attached to the airport. The next morning we enjoy the lounge that is now familiar, and I start drinking at 7am🥂😅 Having this routine is comforting and helpful in planning too. It doesn’t feel like a wasted day and has become something we look forward to at the end of a trip.

  6. huge inconvenience at best – nightmare at worst. but a necessary evil. It almost makes lounge access a must for that 4 or 5 hours waiting for the real flight!

  7. I needed to take a positioning flight, but instead of spending the night I spent 3 nights. I turned the need for a positioning flight into another city to explore during my trip.

    Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  8. This is another reason why Aeroplan is so good because smaller airports have United that are their partner. Granted, this limits the business class products, but its worth depending on your redemption so who cares, business is business.
