Welcome aboard! On this trip, we will travel around in Shizuoka Prefecture, located in central Japan. You can reach Shizuoka from Tokyo (115 km) or Nagoya (250 km). The most convenient way is by bullet train “Shinkansen”, taking around one hour from Tokyo and two hours from Nagoya.
Although Shizuoka Prefecture may be unfamiliar to many of you, you may be aware that it is famous for its tea production. However, the most renowned and recognizable icon from this region is undoubtedly Mount Fuji was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013 under the title “Fujisan, sacred place and source of artistic inspiration.” We will explore Mount Fuji from various perspectives, including by sea, land, and air. The schedule will be very tight, so please follow me closely.
Today’s itinerary can be conveniently covered by a three-day unlimited transportation pass, which is priced at 6,500 yen. It offers excellent value for money, and you can find detailed information in the below. Our journey begins at Shuzenji Station, (please refer to the transportation information provided in the previous episode). We’ll take a bus to Toi Port on the western side of the Izu Peninsula.
At Toi Port, we’ll board a ferry for a 70-minute ride across Suruga Bay. This offers a chance to witness the majestic sight of Mount Fuji from the sea. Arriving at Shimizu Port, we’ll visit a fish market where you can indulge in a value-for-money sashimi set meal. Next, we’ll head to Numazu Port to visit another fish market, allowing you to compare and choose your favorite.
Finally, we’ll return to our base in Mishima City, centrally located in Shizuoka. Mishima City offers direct Shinkansen connections to Tokyo and Nagoya and excellent transportation network within the Prefecture. As traveller, Mishima city provides a range of hotel options at more affordable prices in compared to Tokyo. We’ll stay there for two nights and I’ll recommend a value-for-money business hotel with a public bath and a delicious seafood breakfast.
