It’s our first day of travel in Japan and we are getting out of Tokyo! In today’s video, we make the long train journey up to Hokkaido, the northernmost of Japan’s four main islands. The best way to cover such a long distance is aboard the Shinkansen also known as the bullet train. We’ll navigate riding the metro during rush hour, pick up our JR train tickets at the station, buy an ekiben (train bento box) to enjoy during the trip, and enjoy the scenic ride across Japan. So you're starting your journey at Ueno station. You'll take a local train to Tokyo station to board the Shinkansen and the first Shinkansen stop is Ueno. All northbound Shinkansen trains on the Tohuku high speed line will make a stop at Ueno. It doesn't make any sense…

Can't believe you guys are doing such a similar schedule to the one I'll be doing in a couple of weeks. I'm going to be spending the night at Hakodate as I want to explore the city a bit and head up the mountain to catch the night view. Going to be in Sapporo for 3 days after that so I can't wait to see what you guys do there.

I didn't know you could book Shinkansen tickets through Klook and just scan a QR code at the station to recieve tickets. I used the ticket machines to reserve our seats and its such a pain when booking with JR Pass. Not hard, just a pain and time consuming… especially when others are waiting to use the machines. I doubt I will ever buy a Japan Rail Pass again especially now that the price has gone up.

新幹線のチケットから撮影が９月2日と分かりました。ずいぶん日数がたちましたね。
東京は９月下旬まで暑かったので、北海道も東京より少し涼しい程度で今年は気温が高かったと思います。
山でなければ、あと２～３週間くらいは半袖でも大丈夫でしょう。

Hi guys! I can't believe I'm in Japan at the same time as you guys! I've just come from Kyoto and would strongly advise against visiting. It has some of the worst over-tourism I've ever experienced. Masses and masses of tourists ruining the experience. Enjoy the North…stay clear of Honshu…
