Who’d have thought one idiot licking a soy sauce bottle could derail an entire industry.
Thanks for tuning in this week guys – be sure to subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don’t miss an episode! YouTube loves to pick and choose which episodes it promotes and anything controversial or risky doesn’t usually get promoted!
I learn Japanese to interact with friends I’ve made on Twitter, Youtube, Twitch etc, and I still communicate frequently with them now. I also have zero interest (nor chance) to work or even move to Japan. I think it’s good enough that learning a language opens up a new horizon for you in terms of community or media. If that person who learnt Japanese was able to make new friends with it, I think that is good enough result.
#Fax Machine Question:
Ello Pete and Chris!
I noticed the Video Podcast on my YouTube feed recently and I was very happy to find out about it! Even though I found it on YouTube, I listen to it on Spotify. Working to finish the whole backlog!
I have two questions, one for each of you!
Chris, I’m going to Japan in a few months with two of my friends. One is 3xL and one is 1xL in US Standards. How hard would it be for them to find clothes in stores in Japan. I hear Japanese clothes would run small… so would they be considered 5xL and 2xL in Japanese Standards? Are those type of clothes hard to find?
Pete, If someone was visiting Europe or England, where would you recommend them going? Or Can you give us a sales pitch as to why we should visit.
Much love! Thank you both for everything!

One thing interesting about Japan is how they all take immediate action due to one bad person. Like it only takes on person doing something wrong to change an entire industry or implement a new law. Instead of just dealing with that invidual appropriate, suing them, whatever and moving on and only doing something if it happens more often. I am honestly not a fan of this, because it's like we allow 1 person to have so much power to affect everyone else, it's like we let them win. In west people will do things like this for attention, they don't care about bad publicity or negative attention, attention is just attention. And to let these people completely change our lives seems unfair. To me if this was a more common issue then makes sense to do something about it, but one guy? seems extreme.
You're going to keep the intro song, right? It was really sad having the podcast start with it since it feels like the gateway song for the podcast to let people know the starting 😅
I feel the guy who learned Japanese now realized living in Japan just isn't viable. I am in the same boat but luckily didn't spend much time trying to learn Japanese. However I would say that if his Japanese is good, he should check out Japanese movies, shows, anime, Japanese video games, and so on. So it wouldn't go to waste then. And like you guys said he should visit on short visits when he can and put it to use. but yea, Japan is clearly not some place a foreigner can live, unless they are lucky enough to be a big youtuber that is paying for your living costs. Japan is still very unfriendly for foreigners wanting to live there.
#Fax machine Question
Hi Chris & Pete…
You mentioned in a prior broadcast that you, Chris, were planning to take your parents around Japan. I am going to guess your parents to be around my age, which is slightly older than your normal demographic. How does planning a tour for your parents differ than planning a tour for say your rowdy boozer Donaldson over there? Thank you gentlemen for the insights and the laughs.

I actually switched to listening to your podcasts on YouTube, because even though I‘ve got spotify premium, there were still so many ads that were so bloody annoying. No ads with YouTube premium at least.
Fast forward. Pause. Stop. See ya.

For the person who is not sure what else Japanese can be used for other than living in Japan. You can always go an app like hello talk and talk to Japanese people who want to know your languages. You can go on vacation, see if any businesses in your country need a translator. You can watch anime without subtitles 😂 Or just teach it to others that want to move to Japan.
Japan's priorities with the response to the sushi incident and not talking about the fact that he's pimping out a child. Jesus.
Literally just been looking at a restaurant in Tokyo which delivers curry on a model train. There's a restaurant in Prague that delivers your beer on a model train too. Maybe it's the future
I don't understand why they don't just cover the sushi and then put stickers on it so you can tell its been opened. If companies selling games and electronics can manage it I'm sure sushi restaurants can!
#faxmachine is that what I should put?

Japan is well know for being very strict on drug usage.
With much of the western world legalising canabis, do you ever seen Japan doing the same?
Jezus, Chris, get some sleep. Your eyes are all bloodshot.

Greetings great and powerful Chris and Pete!
I need some guidance. My partner and I have the opportunity to go on a group trip to Japan (Tokyo,Osaka,Kyoto, and Hokkaido)in late June/early July of 2024. We think that this would be a great opportunity for us to see the country with some great friends. However, we know that the heat in Japan can be absolutely brutal. We were planning on traveling to Japan in a year or two in the fall anyways. But because of budget constraints, we have to pick traveling this coming summer in a group or waiting a couple of years and traveling with just the two of us in the fall. Is it worth taking a trip in the heat of the summer? I would hate being stuck inside all day because of the weather.
Thank you for all of the years of great entertainment! Your content has helped me through quite a few hard times.
