Nanso Satomi Hakkenden is a famous historical fantasy novel written in the early to mid 19th Century. The story revolves around eight warriors related through karmic rebirth. These legendary warriors fight for the Satomi clan of Awa (southern Chiba) in the late 15th Century.
The city of Tateyama puts on a festival in October to celebrate the novel and Satomi history. There’s swordfights, drums, gunfire, decorative floats, and historical costumes.
