Meet Naomi who is married to Jeremy, an Indian Singaporean. What is their marriage life like and how do they overcome cultural differences? I was invited to their HDB flat and I’m on a mission to find out how Japanese and Indian Singaporean things coexist.

  1. What Jeremy said about foreigners reactions is so true. I live in Sydney now and when I say that I'm Singaporean they get so shocked but when I say I'm Singporean-Malay they immediately associate me to Malaysia, which isn't a bad thing but I've never lived in Malaysia before so I don't connect with that identity.

  2. I've been drinking cold water since young, and my family doesn't prevent me from drinking them unless you're not feeling well then it's back to warm water lol! Glad to see a mix of cultures in a family and the child will be exposed to different backgrounds, in face Singapore is already like the world in a small island, so many cultures you can learn in a small place it's only up to individuals to want to break the barriers and be friends with each other.

  3. Yishun is just another housing estate like the rest of Singapore, there's nothing wrong with it and we definitely don't need any special invitation to rent or buy a flat and live there if we want to !!

  4. Apart from the weird weather, Singapore is basically a nice country to live in.

  5. There's a Japanese woman who's married to a Malay Singaporean too. They're on Tiktok. Can't remember their names at the moment though.

  6. not showering a lot seems to be an east asian (yellow skin ) thing… my wife also shower only once a day , meanwhile i am like Jeremy i shower at least 4 times a day.

  7. One other misconception, we usually place our country first when identifying ourselves. Not so much emphasis on race?
    もう一つの思い違いは、私たちは通常、自分たちの身元を明らかにする際に、自分たちの国を第一に考えるということ。

    Shortest: I’m Singaporean
    最短:私はシンガポール人です。

    Short: Singaporean-Chinese, Singaporean-Malay, Singaporean-Indian, etc
    ショート:シンガポール系中国人、シンガポール系マレー人、シンガポール系インド人など。

  8. Even our President is Indian( Sri Lankan) married to a Japanese lady, so its not uncommon

  9. I recognise most of us oversea . We have traits which reach out to eachother despite our races . We are Singaporean

  10. It's true Yishun has many Japanese friends in community. My lovely neighbour is a Malay family and the son in law is Japanese. Come to khatib next time yeah.? 😅 🫰

  11. Lovely couple and cute kid, wishing them all the best! I have met several couples of the same ethnicity coupling, with the females being of Japanese descent. Yishun is a lovely place
