Byodo-in is a temple in the city of Uji, Kyoto, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of Japan’s most recognizable temples. The iconic Phoenix Hall is depicted on the 10 yen coin, and the Phoenix (or Ho-o) appears on the back of the 10,000 yen bank note.
