4K Iwaki to Minamisoma Thru Difficult to Return Zone near Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant

The drive starts at Central Iwaki City and heads to Minamisoma through the difficult-to-return zone and areas devastated by the Tsunami of the Tohoku Earthquake in 2011.
The difficult-to-return zone is an evacuation-ordered zone where the annual integrated dose may not fall below 20 millisieverts even after five years have passed, and where the annual integrated dose is currently over 50 millisieverts.
Residents in the difficult-to-return zone are still unable to return to their homes.
Fortunately, this zone has shrunk year by year, and we hope all residents can go back home in the near future.

  1. That was quite the drive. Have you ever thought of visiting the communities that were ravaged by the tsunami in 2011? I was curious to see if the rebuilding is ongoing or whether they left for higher ground. I do remember that a town called Taro was obliterated, and now can't find it on Google maps to see if anyone ever returned to it. I was just curious to see the resiliency of the Japanese people, and to see if they decided to stay despite the risks, or if they left for a better spot. If you don't want to, that's fine too. I won't make you go if you aren't comfortable with it. I really enjoy your videos, and always get a kick out of some of the tight spots you get yourself into from time to time. I know it's not fun for you, but you make this old woman happy, going on dirt and gravel roads, little dogpaths of roads, and those high bridges and roads in the mountains too. I never know what's coming around some of the tight corners you seem to find. Have a wonderful week!!! An old polar bear momma from Canada (slightly soaked from a rare hurricane).

  2. Your videos are truly beautiful ❤️. I like your videos and I always with you. And very good driving.

  3. This was enlightening to see. Incredible how deserted and abandoned the Difficult To Return Zone is, when compared to the surrounding area. Still, it has its own charm and is quite something.
