ABOUT KENSHO QUEST 🏝

Aloha! We are a worldschooling family with three young kids. Our home base is the beautiful island of Oahu, Hawaii. We’ve been living a nomadic lifestyle for the past 15 years. Once we started traveling, we just wanted to keep on exploring!

We like to make new friends, eat local foods, and immerse ourselves in culture. We strive towards a natural, minimalist, zero-waste lifestyle. We’re not perfect, but we keep trying!

  1. I love how temperature regulating wool clothing is. I’d like to try the long sleeve shirts from Unbound Merino as a base layer under my wool dresses.

  2. I appreciate that y'all covered both the pros and the cons, and also some solutions to the cons! It was surprising to hear that long-sleeves were recommended even in summer. (Thanks for mentioning that, George!)

  3. We are heading for Japan later this fall and appreciate the low maintenance feature of the Merino clothing when traveling but how is the fit? Is it cut loose or tight?

  4. I love how lightweight merino wool clothes are…I've shopped with other brands but now curious about Unbound Merino. Thanks for all the info!

  5. Did not know how quickly wool dries. I appreciate the different suggestions here, how it can be both warm and cooling. Would love to try Unnound Merino in the coming year.

  6. T shirts sound as a great idea as they are easy to clean and have temperature control depending on weather conditions, I will consider them for my Japan trip coming soon

  7. I’ve just started switching my wardrobe over to merino. I love how easy my laundry situation is becoming. I haven’t tried Unbound Merino yet and would love to give it a go!

  8. Going to Japan next year and would love to pack more merino wool because they dry so quickly and do retain less odor!

  9. I'm very interested in Unbound merino wool in how it would hold up to taking it on backpacking horse rides.
    I enjoy your minimalist travel.

  10. We just found your channel and have really enjoyed your content. We have a trip to Japan planned for next year and I have been looking for Merino Wool clothing. Thank you for all you do!

  11. I have never worn merino wool but I want to purchase some pieces for my travel wardrobe with my son. I am also a minimalist so these pieces would be great year round. Also, I changed to barefoot shoes for me and my 4-year-old and I love them. Thanks for that recommendation.

  12. I absolutely love Merino Wool. I have a dress from another company that I love and have worn almost every day for this past year. I would love to try some items Unbound Merino for travel and to further minimize my wardrobe with high quality, sustainable products.

  13. I have always heard that merino wool clothes are great to travel with but have never tried any. would love to to try some of Unboud Merino clothing. Thanks for your videos!

  14. Aloha from Kailua! As a retirement gift , My husband and I are taking our first trip to Japan next month. As novice travelers, all your videos have been very helpful. Coming from Hawaii Merino Wool seems to be a very good investment being able to wear the clothing in Japans cooler weather and here at home afterwards. I wanted to get your dress ,but the plus sizes were not available. I intend to get Georges jacket for my husband with your discount. Your children are beautiful and growing with each video!
    Mahalo❤

  15. I've had Unbound Merino bookmarked for some time now thanks to your channel. Just haven't gotten past checkout because its a bit pricey. Thanks for what you do!

  16. We're going to Japan in December and have found your videos very informational. Love your adventures with 3 young children. I'm interested to try the merino wool clothing instead of cotton. Thanks for sharing your adventures.

  17. The man's hood is a winner for me, I'd really like to give it a try! The shirts look awesome as well! Thanks for making this video!

  18. About 10 months ago, I started wearing merino wool sport bras after learning that women are being exposed to high levels of toxic chemicals that are found in sports bras and other moisture wicking athletic-wear. I thought I was going to be boiling hot in the merino wool but found that they were really comfortable in winter and summer months here in Iowa. I would be very interested in trying clothing from the Unbound merino wool clothing line. I love the idea of its versatility in using it year-round by itself in the summer and layering it in the winter.
I’ll be traveling to Osaka in October and I’ve been learning a lot from your videos. Thank you!

  19. On my recent trip to Malaysia and Indonesia, I packed four 100% merino wool long sleeve shirts. Wearing them, I feel secure with the extra sun protection. When outside all day in the hot weather, I wear a 175gsm shirt and matching leggings (if I can find 175gsm pants I will wear it to stay cool in hot weather!). When I’m outside for shorter duration or late afternoon into evenings, I wear one of my three 200gsm shirts and cotton pants. I haven’t yet invested in merino wool pants, but I will after this trip. My shirts would smell of sweat after each use, but the smell goes away after I hang them to dry indoors on clothes hangers (I read that moths will eat the fibres, so I avoid drying them outside). I only wash my shirts once a week when I have access to laundry.

I also read that merino wool is okay to use as swim suit. So, I have also used my 100% 175gsm merino wool camisole and briefs for swimming and snorkelling.

  20. I love that you can wear wool more than once and how quickly it dries. Wool wash day is the easiest wash day for us!

  21. I love merino wool! So cool and comfortable…looks good all the time and is GREAT for travel! Thank for your video. It's so hot in Japan right now… that dress is perfect and you're right, a small t shirt under the dress would look great!

  22. I've heard a lot of hype about merino wool, and I wanted to see what you all said about the whole natural anti microbial claim the material has..

Sounds like a cool thing to try

  23. Curious about merino clothing because I’m so tired of repurchasing the same staples multiple times each year. Funny enough, my tastes haven’t changed but clothing quality sure has. So between that and planning to travel more streamlined for my Spring trip to Japan, I’m ready to invest in the best.

  24. I've really wanted to try the travel hoodie. I have a couple merino t-shirts that I love for their comfort and low maintenance.

  25. I am preparing for a trip to Japan and Costa Rica. Finally looking at some me time. I like the functionality of the clothing and think they would be multipurpose for all types of conditions. Being able to line dry clothing would work very well in both trips.

  26. I'm curious to try unbound merino based on your reviews. I have a few pieces from another brand and they are my favorite items in my closet. I love the comfort and temperature regulation of wool. It's easier to care for than I thought, and like you said, it dries faster than the other clothing material after washing. Thanks for your videos and reviews!

  27. Please pick me for gift card. I live in Waianae hawaii. I have a merino dress that I absolutely love and would love to have a merino capsule wardrobe. Mahalo

  28. I’m heading to japan in December! Looking forward to bringing some merino wool with me 😊

  29. I own merino wool socks but never knew wool is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Good information!

  30. Really enjoy your videos and headed to Japan shortly. We love merino wool for travel and I will definitely be checking out outbound merino as very competitive prices. Love the dress.

  31. Planning a trip to Japan this November. It’ll be awesome to try a few merino wool pieces since the weather will be transitioning. Thanks for sharing and recommending!

  32. My favorite thing about wool clothing is how soft it feels on my skin in a wide range of temperature

  33. I first heard about Unbound Merino from Evan Hadfield and his channel "Rare Earth" as he was mates with the founder (this was just before the namesake of the beer became "popular"). As our trips to Bologna and Japan were cancelled for that year, it didn't seem prudent to invest in travel clothing, but the whole idea of the properties of merino wool were quite appealing. Now we are setting our itinerary for an April 2024 trip to Japan and plan to have at least a couple items each from Unbound Merino, because of your enthusiastic endorsement. Thanks for all your great, informative videos!

  34. Merino is becoming one of my favorite fabrics to wear all year round, it keeps me warm in the winter and cool in the the summer.

  35. Would like to try some Merino wool clothing, but I'm worried about the itching. Do you experience any stretching after a few washes etc… Thank you

  36. would love to try unbound merino wool. heard lots of good things about merino wool in general and would be good for my RTW trip coming up soon.

  37. I love the antimicrobial properties and quick dry time with merino, it can’t be beat! Warm in the winter and cool in the summer it’s an absolute magical fiber.

  38. Your commentary and reviews on Unbound Merino is great! Very honest with the pros and cons. I am very interested in moisture wicking and temperature regulation properties. Thanks a lot! Hoping to win the giveaway to try some pieces myself! 🤞🏼🤞🏼

  39. Thank you for the video! I appreciate the honest review of merino wool. You hear so much about the material holding up to stink and wrinkles, the honesty is great! I'll definitely try out the crew neck T's for me and my wife's first trip to Japan next month! And p.s. thanks for the Klook JR pass info!

  40. Wonderful Videos. I have a couple of time-sensitive questions about JR Pass. Most of the travel agencies from official JR railways no longer accept purchase orders due to system upgrade. I'm left confused and hesitant ordering from Klook because of all the negative reviews. Have you had any problems purchasing from them? Thanks, Edward

  41. Silly questions. And I have been googling this….. are you guys in Japan right now? Do you expect it to get a little cooler next week? Should I bring all shorts? I can't tell if it will start getting cooler….
