WHY The US is Preparing to Put BILLIONS in High Speed Railway

Pete Buttigieg’s plan to position the United States as a “world leader” in high-speed rail involves a cost of over $4 trillion in federal debt for constructing new rail lines and substantial annual deficit spending for operational subsidies. However, this high-speed rail system is projected to account for less than 2% of national passenger travel and won’t handle freight transportation.

High-speed trains became outdated in 1958, prior to Japan introducing its first bullet train, with Boeing’s 707 jetliner surpassing the speeds of today’s fastest high-speed trains. While air travel was more expensive than rail travel in 1964, today’s average airfares are significantly lower than the fares paid by passengers of the Amtrak Acela, the sole high-speed train in the US.

  1. I always want California High-Speed Rail in California and I always love California High-Speed Rail in California.😮

  2. I always want Brightline West Los Angeles to Las Vegas and I always love Brightline West Los Angeles to Las Vegas.😮

  3. Hmmmm I disagree with this video a lot, we already have highways and maintain them with a bloated budget with no improvement. Plus the automobile is way more inefficient than trains….. railway transport is way more cost effective and a better overall experience than flying and cost effective to maintain if done right.

  4. Amtrak's Auto Train is very Profitable and The NEC brings 20% to GDP so High Speed 🚅 can be profitable as it adds to GDP gross domestic Product.

  5. Air travel? You have to go through so much crap to board. Thousands sit stranded at airports due to cancellations and delays during the holidays and travel seasons. And building roads means more traffic. Highspeed bullet train technology is something the mighty United States of America should of had this decades ago yet you keep on coming up with reasons not to advance in these modern marvels of transportation which would improve infrastructure and economic growth. This is why we fail. And the far more advanced countries of the far east and Europe continue to rise. Now the far east is taking the next step twards maglev super train technology at 375 mph. The California highspeed rail project will cost 120 billion dollars to complete. Yet they wanna put some fool on mars at a cost of 500 billion plus dollars. Remember all the money the United States government (gave away) in stimulus packages during the pandemic? Cost? Over 7 trillion dollars, gave it away!!! Dont want to hear about money. For a country so damn gong ho on electric vehicles, these electrical engineering modern marvels of transportation would be a major game changer in the (mighty) United States of America…….

  6. Yeah America, you still know how to talk. We should of had this decades ago and not everyone wants to sit stranded at airports due to cancellations and delays during the holidays. The money you would spend to fix, build and improve roads and highways which still remains over congested, you could build a bullet line from Boston Massachusetts to Jacksonville Florida stopping in one city in each state it travels through. You could move millions of americans up and down the entire United States Eastern seaboard each year, oh yeah! Did i mention that highspeed bullet trains are also (fully electric)? Remember the money the United States government gave away in stimulus packages during the pandemic? The cost was over 7 trillion dollars, ( gave it away)! But you rather put some fool on mars at a cost of 500 plus billion dollars, benefiting absolutely no one except for the fool. Today's american generations sit around and come up with every excuse not to do something which is why we fail…..

  7. "Instead Buttigieg and Congress should focus on reducing congestion, enhancing safety, and improving access to jobs and economic opportunities by upgrading existing roads"

"Just one more lane bro, I swear we'll solve traffic"

First off, you can to the same with trains, also, COVID doesn't last forever, ridership will increase again, remind me about the airlines that went under in 2020? Amtrak didn't go under. That's because it's a public service, it doesn't need to make money because it's PUBLIC, just like the interstate.

Second off, we've already tried the "just one more lane bro" mentality, and where did that lead us? If you're going to make a video on HSR in America, get your facts right, and look at the research from today, not from 1949. Trains have advanced past 1970.

Third off, remind me how long it takes to get to the airport outside the city, the waiting inside the terminal, the getting on the plane, taxiing on the runway, taking off, and repeating the same. Even without delays, some trips could be done with high-speed rail for short distances, like Seattle-Portland, where most of the traffic is, no-one is asking for HSR from bum-fuck nowhere North Dakota to bum-fuck nowhere Montana.

TL:DR: Train's are economically more viable than planes and cars. The Interstate would've cost $1 trillion if we built it now. If we can build roads, we can build trains.

  8. This is just a hit piece on new rail projects. Doomer mindset, why bother trying something new when we can just add one more lane. 👎👎

  9. This video is like talking to my older republican relatives at family gatherings. Complete garbage.

  10. I was hoodwinked by the Words US Railway. I understand you can have a Political opinion . Mine is that what you sadly intentionally left out any of the positives of enhancing Passenger rail . Cheeky!
