★ 4K 🇨🇭St. Margrethen – Buchs – Sargans cab ride Switzerland [01.2023] Führerstandsmitfahrt Rheintal

We’ve been to St Margrethen before and also passed through Sargans. Today we’re taking a line connecting the two, along the border Switzerland shares with Austria and Lichtenstein, which is defined by the river Rhein. In Switzerland it is known as the Rheintalbahn (Rhein valley railway), not be be confused with the Rheintalbahn in Germany (which will also be covered on this channel).

Apart from the section between Heerbrugg and Oberriet, the land we see to the far left until we reach Rüthi belongs to Austria, and from just past Rüthi to Sargans it belongs to Liechtenstein. In a future video, we will travel from Buchs through Liechtenstein and on to Feldkirch in Austria.

The line is currently closed (February – October 2023) due to construction of a second track in certain sections to allow for an increased frequency of passenger services. Furthermore, a few stops that were closed over the years are to be renewed and reactivated, as labelled throughout the video. This is one of the reasons we love documenting railways in this way – when everything has been changed and looks different, we still have something to look back on.

  1. The TRAXX takes off like a sports car running light! It still makes the characteristic creaking noises though

  4. Enjoyed the video as always. The camera movement didn't bother me. Is it a problem with the mount or something internal to the camera?

  5. I always look forward to watching the videos.
By the way, the Re420 electric locomotive at 5:59 seems to be equipped with an automatic coupling.
This is the first time I've seen this other than on a replacement locomotive.

  6. Thanks for sharing the 'before' – looking forward to the 'after' now – rolling at reduced speed was good, not least for the reduced impact of the flat wheel – hope that was put on a lathe soon afterwards – hearing the power electronics reminds me we haven't heard you driving an Austrian Tonleiter Taurus yet, will we hear that on the Liechtenstein clip? Thanks again m/

  7. It looks like from some of the early bridges under the tracks that a double track had been intended. Also the few over bridges have double track clearance, Problem is the track is built on the flood plain of the Rhine river, which has all sorts of issues for drainage and track support stability. Looks good in the light snow.

  8. Great to see stations being brought back to life. That doesn't happen very often. It will be great to see the rejuvenated line. A passenger service would be a great way to show off the "new" line.

  9. Ottimo video, come tutti quelli a firma "Paolo".

  10. Looks like a fairly nice day for a train ride. Some very nice scenery, iI enjoyed the ride, thanks for taking me with you.

  12. Always so nice for me to sit back, relax, enjoy the ride and scenery … while you do all the hard work getting us there!! Well, I can at least buy a cup o' joe (or ???). Thanks, as always, for sharing your journeys … excellent quality always, fun to ride along. [Greetings from Tucson]

  13. Hi und Dankeschön für diese schöne Mitfahrt. 👍🏻 Inklusive einem kurzem Stück der EC Route Wien- Zürich. Viele Grüße 🙋🏼‍♂️

  16. Another lovely cab ride
I was in Switzerland in August and i noticed that line was closed as the line terminated in Altstätten

Looking forward to the video trough Lichtenstein. Also I hope you have a video from Geneve to Annemasse 😉
