Joe’s Shimanami Kaido: Getting to Imabari on Shikoku Island

In this video, Joe’s group of older Americans decide to challenge the Shimanami Kaido. However, due to the popularity of Japan opening up after COVID-19 and the interest in the Shimanami, they were unable to get any hotel reservations at Onomichi, Hiroshima which is the usual Shimanami Kaido starting point. Thus, they decided to do the reverse and start from what is usually considered the end of the 75-kilometer route in Imabari, Ehime Prefecture which is on the island of Shikoku. But Imabari is an outlying, rural city, and getting there takes some figuring out. This is the first of two videos that will cover the start to the finish of Joe’s Shimanami Kaido trip. The second video will be coming very soon!

  1. Mike! Great….have been waiting for this….

Hmmmmm….. Me thinks this is going to be a Part II, III, IV or more. I hope so, anyway.

  2. Watching this with much interest as well as the Benton Homestead channel, as I like the idea of staying somewhere along the route rather than at either end and just doing some leisurely short day rides rather than attempt the whole route at once.
