It’s known that Japan has some of the best seafood in the world! Many locals and tourists from abroad visit Toyosu and Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, and the northern capital, Hokkaido to get a piece of the action. However, one area you may not know about is Kesennuma in Miyagi Prefecture. Join me as we feast on some of the best oysters and scallops I have ever had!

  1. Ryotaros personality really shines in this video and it was very fun to watch 😂

  2. Oysters are one of these foods that people either love or hate, but this video made my mouth water

  3. You used Seinfeld music for your shellfish joke, and the place Banya was also a character's name in the show. Ryotoroooooo

  4. I can imagine these fisherman hating to eat what they farm and catch. Them fish market folks love pork, beef and chicken over seafood because they work with seafood everyday, never ask a fisherman what they like, it's a bit twisted. Regular folks that don't work in the fishing industry don't work with seafood every day so we love seafood.

  5. It’s videos like this that show the that Japan is so much more than Tokyo. I hope to visit Kesenuma my next trip there. Thank you for making these.

  6. I went to Kesenuma in June, and it was fantastic. The food was excellent. The locals were also extremely friendly and helpful despite my complete inability to speak Japanese. I only wish I'd stayed longer.
    The whole area is beautiful.

  7. Not only digging into the delicious seafood but also meeting the locals and learning about their life in Kesennuma is great fun. When you go to the places you visited in the video, make sure to say hello and tell them that you saw YouTube. They may give you an extra oyster (100 NOT guaranteed!)

  8. I am not an expert, but I feel like the person doing the subtitles took some liberties.

  9. I love how Ryotoro makes snarky comments on himself. That's some Gollum / Smeagol sh!t going on there.

  10. I learned a lot of new phrases here: Naruhodo = bangin', arigatou gozaimasu = let's just be friends

    😀

  11. Most (thankfully not all) Ryoutarou videos, are just commercial adverts, and just general Japanese-TV-style propaganda. Where everything is sugar-coated/white-washed. I.e. feels very fake, off-putting, and often (attempting to be) manipulative. Adding some light-hearted British vulgarisms, doesn't really change anything.

Abroad in Japan has gotten a slight advert-feel, at times, after the early videos, but they're still good.
    These videos, however…
They don't have a slight hint of being cheap adverts. They are cheap adverts.

  12. I would be a little concerned with sea food of the eastern sea, as they want to put million of contaminated water into this area ….

  13. I don't eat a lot of seafood because I live in the middle of nowhere…and that affects the quality of the food….so im used to plain deep fried or rubbery bland seafood. This video makes me want to try the good stuff

  14. Mother of God! That's looks fantastic!
This would cost you an absolute fortune in the UK!

  15. Hi Ryotaro, thanks for the video of the delicious seafood. i would love to go there and help myself to the seafood there.
That being said i like to talk about the elephant in the room.
With the release of treated radioactive water with tritium from fukushima, daiichi nuclear plant, the some countries particularly china and to a lesser extent south korea have been protesting and making a lot of negative publicity and banning seafood from japan.
All these negative publicity will impact tourists eating seafood on this side of Japan.
You may need to think of how to counter these negative publicity together with Kesennuma.

  17. I saw a lot of Bento boxes now have this huge scallops in it and they all look delicious but it will be too expensive where I live 😓

  18. Japan has fantastic quality seafood. I do not like seafood in my country. In Japan I could not get enough it.

  19. I went to Kesennuma. I accidentally stumbled into a beer festival, which was a nice surprise. The people there were really friendly, and that made everything about the long train ride worthwhile for me. Sanriku coast is my favorite part of Iwate. Good food. The train ride out there was a little long, but it was worth it.

  20. These subtitles are very entertaining. I honestly believe some Japanese people think that way when they meet Ryotaro for the first time 😀
