🐈Introduction to the Kishigawa Line and Cats
Tama was a calico cat and served as the Kishi stationmaster from 2007 to 2015. Tama made significant contributions to Wakayama’s tourism and the revitalization of local public transport, along with her co-worker Nitama, who is also a calico cat.
Now, Nitama, who previously worked at Idakiso station, has taken over Tama’s position and is referred to as ‘Tama the 2nd Stationmaster.’ Like other employees, ‘Tama the 2nd Stationmaster’ has set working hours. She primarily works at Kishi station. Nitama’s days off are Wednesdays and Thursdays, starting from September 2015. Occasionally, her days off may change.
Tips:
🔔You can purchase a one-day ticket for the Wakayama Electric Railway Kishigawa Line at Platform No. 9 at Wakayama Station.
🔔The round-trip train journey takes approximately one hour. Besides visiting Nitama at the terminus station, Kishi, if you have extra time, it’s recommended to get off at Idakiso to explore a temple site.
🔔If you have 2 to 4 hours of travel time south from Wakayama, you can visit the tourist destinations of Shirahama and Nachi.
