Takachiho Gorge, a large canyon with 80 to 100 meter high cliffs stretching for about 7 kilometers.
It was formed when pyroclastic flows from the volcanic activities of Mount Aso tens of thousands of years ago cooled and solidified, and were eroded by the river.
