Ranking THINGS TO DO in KYOTO Japan

A TIER LIST of popular tourist attractions in Kyoto, so you know what’s worth visiting (as of 2023). These are my personal opinions of course, but I feel like having someone’s honest thoughts on what’s worth it can be really helpful in deciding your itinerary – especially since we all have a limited amount of time and money when traveling!

This certainly isn’t an all-inclusive list, there are many great things that I unfortunately DIDN’T have the chance to try. But there are some hidden gems on here too, that you might not have heard about before (like roly poly doll making). That one’s a great option for a rainy day activity!

  1. I visited Arashiyama bamboo forest super early, like during sunrise, and it's surreal without the crowd.

And yes, Fushimi Inari is definitely A+ tier during the day. But NGL night time actually sounds fun.

  2. I've been to Fushimi Inari shrine in late afternoon and at night. Yes it can be a little creepy at night since there isn't much in terms of lighting. However, I found it pretty cool as long as you have your phone light. The photo opportunities are better at night than day. I would give S during day and maybe B/A at night
