MY MIDLIFE CRISIS BROUGHT US TO TRADITIONAL JAPAN

This is what I call my ultimate midlife crisis. We all suffer a midlife crisis at some point in our life – but this one caused us to end up in a remote Japanese mountain village. Insane, maybe but we haven’t looked back since !!

  1. Chris I hate to be the party pooper but seriously please get checked out by a cardiologist. Your breathless walking is exactly how I was before I needed heart surgery.

  2. You like historical places, so before you leave Japan, you have to visit the mountain Kurama Yama. The mountain is located 570 meters above sea level on the north-west side of Kyoto. It is considered a sacred place by Buddhists and Shintoists. Good travels and thanks for vlogging it all so we also can enjoy it.

  3. It is not easy to say goodbye to Japan knowing that it will be very difficult to find this great combination of people, food, sights, shopping, nature and infrastructure in another country. Love Japan

  4. I’ve been in the same job 19 years now and as a 59 year old its looking very unlikely id be retiring anytime soon do to not having the golden opportunity but i still live in hope. My midlife crisis brain decided to adopt a 1 year old Welsh Border Collie from the RSPCA last May thinking she will help me to get of my butt and start exploring the Uk with her as my last Dog who sadly died last October and I miss going to the various places and holidays with her. Well I took Millie with me to Cornwall as Id booked two weeks away last year which was for me and the Dog who died but we only lasted one week there because i quickly realise I can’t take Millie anywhere apart from going back the next day to apologise for her behaviour 😂, yes she has issues 😢 She is beautiful and very much loved and well worth taking many hours each day working on her in hope she will learn manners and become more stable so we can start going to places. My fingers are crossed. What your doing is not insane, its called living your life to the fullest with no regrets. I love watching you adventurous life. ❤

  5. hello! been watching for some time and made me miss my road trip in japan in june.
if you can familiarise yourself with these characters, would really help with driving:
止まれ/tomare – its usually a red sign in a triangle. it means stop. a local advised us to always stop even though there are no cars.
円 – yen, the currency, money
    分 – minutes
so the sign said 20分200円 so it means 20 minutes 200 yen 🙂

    saying hello from singapore 😊

  6. In the 1800s, the first American envoys visited Japan, and according to one theory, slippers were developed to be worn instead of shoes when they entered Japanese houses.

  7. I may be mistaken but I thought I seen something on Facebook wishing Chris a happy birthday if so happy birthday Chris

  8. こにちわ glad to see you having fun in the most beautiful area of 日本! You filmed some grave type stones with red aprons on, do you know what they are??? It's interesting but sad, they're representing abortions ladies have had 😢

  9. Motorcycle, built a boat, motorcycle, rally car, year off to play snooker, electric bike, sold boat, A class motorhome, want to learn to paramotor, my whole life is a crisis.

  10. Wow I don't know Japan had so much history. It's beautiful and the people are friendly ❤. Thanks for sharing your amazing adventures. Sending love and hugs from Rhode Island

  11. I was always too busy working to have any crisis 😊 btw Japan has truckers map you could download to avoid small roads big vehicles dont fit

  12. Thank you so much for sharing wonderful Japan. I miss it so much – a special country, kind people and incredible history. Belated お誕生日おめでとう Chris. 🎂

  13. I'm absolutely loving following your travels. It's really giving me the travel bug. I never thought of it as a midlife crisis, but I'm doing things things for myself that I never would of in the past. I think the most "mad" thing I've been doing is traveling thousands of miles to go to concerts of musical artists that will never come close to performing near my small Texas town.

  14. Whether it is a mildlife crisis ,l had to settle up at 40s in a new country by leaving all the things l have. l had to do it because there was nothing that l could do. In addition to all the things ,its been very challing learning second language , adaptation to a new country, making new friends, trying to take a part there and much more.l have been happier than l used to and getting used to all those things now .If l gave advice those who are same as me ,it would be "never give up " keep going ,smiling and always dreaming where you wanna see yourself in your life

  15. Lovely video. The food looked great, the old village museum was exquisite. You and Marianne looked so relaxed. See you next time.

  16. I think you have made the right decision–going through Vietnam/Malaysia/Thailand would make more sense than India and Nepal. You have also made the correct choice of having BBQ beef at Hida Takayama which is their specialty in that area.

  17. By now, you are probably noticing that it's getting warmer and more humid daily.
You will be constantly sweating buckets and losing salt from your body, and maybe getting heat stroke 🙁
Please eat some salt candy, ume boshi and miso soup (you can get them at 7-11, etc.) daily.
Also, I think the southern route will be better/ easier.
In China, they might think that you look suspicious or maybe spies, and get arrested.
Please take extra care of yourselves.
btw, I really love watching your travels. You are a wonderful young couple 🙂

  18. I don't think mid life crisis is a thing really, I just think if you're quite a busy sort of person and retire from a job or career in your mid to late 50's as my hubby did you need a way to occupy yourself, so people with active minds like to challenge themselves that's all. It's usually a good thing in my opinion. I've struggled to retire 100% as I'm 6 years younger than hubby. We plan to explore a lot more in Turkey and in UK now.

  19. Hi Chris & Marianne, great video as usual, I know it hard work editing exploring videos especially when you on the move, I too bought a motorbike and camper van (self built) for my mid life crisis, I think when you’ve had your family and they’ve grown up and left home we all have to fill that void as you’ve been in that raising family zone for so long, but blessing to you and your family and just a thought before you reach your deathbed pls also think about you salvation and where you go after you had a great life 🙏🏻 keep those great adventures coming, God bless.
