  1. I return for 3 week trip in Japan where I spend 12 days in Kyoto. Metro, trains and buses are very very easy to use with an IC card (ICOCA or SUICA) you can purchase when you arrive. Just get a sim card and use google maps. metro and trains are on time 99.9% of the time so if it's the right time and the right platform it's the right train/metro. Taxi are very expensive for long distances but prices are okay for short distances so don't hesitate to grab a taxi for 10-20min ride within Kyoto if this saves you long walk or bus/metro transfers… And last tips don't even try to visit Kyoto in 2-3 days!
