If you want to experience snow, and you have availed of unlimited JR PASS (railway pass), this is a great option to include in your itinerary in Japan cause they have direct line from Tokyo Station going to Gala Yuzawa. Travel time is less than 3 hrs one way, so definitely a day tour can be squeezed-in in your itinerary. Please do note that Snow in this area is on certain months only, so better check before going.
