This is one of the Ancient Capitals of Japan along with Kyoto. I’ve come here like 30 times and never get tired of it. Small town feel with amazing cultural assets and little bit of the old time Japan if you venture off a bit. The best fun is feeding the wild/tame deers in and around Nara Park.
It’s an easy day trip from Osaka or Kyoto (30-40 min commuter train $4-5)
Most people do it as a day trip but i think you will enjoy it if you stay overnight or two.
