We left the Japanese city behind us and headed to Okayama Prefecture for a taste of life in rural Japan. We were truly in the countryside, away from it all. The nearest city (Okayama) was over an hour bus (and 20 minutes walk) away. We came here to do some Workaway volunteering, and couldn’t be more pleased.

This place was our little haven in between the bamboo groves, where we spotted foxes, raced wild boar to find bamboo shoots and generally met wonderful people and got to see a complete different side to Japan. . We got the chance to make mochi almost from scratch, visit the local lake and see what life is like in a traditional house in the peaceful Japanese countryside.
