Shinkansen Green Class Car Quick Tour

The Shinkansen 新幹線 is operated by Japan Railways (JR). Each Shinkansen has a name depending of where it runs. The names of the lines are the Tohoku Shinkansen, the Tokaido /Sanyo Shinkansen, the Sanyo / Kyushu Shinkansen and the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Each Shinkansen train on the line has a separate name depending on the speed and the number of stops made. For example, on the Tokaido 東海道 Line, the Nozomi のぞみ is the fastest, followed by the Hikari ヒカリ then the Kodama 児玉 The Green Class cars are like travelling in Business class on a plane. The seats are wide and comfortable. There is plenty of leg room, The seats recline and have a footrest – all of which operate with the touch of a button. There is an airline fold down tray table. There are overhead luggage racks which will accommodate airline sized cabin baggage, However, there is no chance of getting a large suitcase in these racks. Be aware that there are no luggage racks at the end of Shinkansen carriages like are found in long distance trains in Europe or the UK. Consider using a luggage delivery service instead.

On some Shinkansen Trains there is an equivalent first class called Gran Class. Here is a link to a quick U Tube video I have made, which gives a quick look inside.
