【4K Stroll】Takehara – Hiroshima – Japan / Townscape of Merchant Houses From 17th Century

✋Hello! Today we will take a stroll down the Honmachi Street in Takehara. This town has a 350-year history. We can admire many buildings erected with the town’s wealth in its heyday. Let’s go on a journey through time!

Takehara is a city located in Hiroshima Prefecture of Japan. In the center we can find Takehara Townscape Conservation Area. This remain from the old town which was famous for its salt and Sake production. This place had perfect location for salt production due to extremes of high and low tide of the Seto Inland Sea. The main street of this town is Honmachi which is lined with traditional wooden merchant houses and tenements. These buildings have gray plaster and latticework walls. The well-preserved buildings show the prosperity of the town’s merchants of the Edo period (1603–1867).

May happiness be with this place.
