Here’s how to use Google maps offline without internet in 60 seconds PLUS a better alternative. Each offline maps and navigation app is slightly different, and some have big advantages over others.

Travel is 100x more convenient (and safe) if you know how to download Google maps offline on iPhone and Android (it’s basically the same):
You can navigate without roaming or hassling with a local data SIM card
You can navigate UNTIL you’re able to get your hands on a local SIM
You can navigate in places with no service — road trips, national parks, remote islands, etc

Google maps offline navigation is your best option in many cases, but it has its limitations.

So in addition to how to save Google maps offline in 2021, I ALSO cover an additional free maps app you can use when Google falls short.

And make sure to stick to the end for one big reason why you might not want to download maps at all!

Heyo! Mitch and Day here 👋🏼

We’re just your typical American-Colombian couple determined to live every second of our precious time here on earth to the fullest. After a 10-month solo backpacking trip through South America, I (Mitch) stopped in Cali, Colombia to take salsa dancing classes 💃🏻. I only planned to stay for a couple weeks, but God had other plans for me. I met a cute Colombian girl (Day) in class, those couple weeks turned into a couple years, and before we knew it…we were married 👰🏻🤵🏼

Now we’re traveling the world full time as digital nomads, supporting ourselves by working online 👨‍💻👩‍💻

Our goal with these videos is to inspire you to step outside your comfort zone, give you an inside peek at our crazy imperfect lives, and show you that you don’t have to be rich to live an extraordinary life…all you need to do is make the choice!

  1. I'm assuming that you can use "car mode" while you're walking offline on the sidewalk right? Just so long as you're near a road..(and thanks for making the helpful video)

  2. G'day Mate, Thanks very much……. I'm going to the Kruger Park in South Africa in August – I was planning to take my Garmin Nuvi 3490 GPS for driving from Joburg to the Kruger but after watching your vid, it sounds like I can download maps of the area onto my iphone using Google maps & then navigate offline using my iphone. Does this make my Garmin redundant?

  3. A tip, get a good hiking/ back country app as a backup to his suggestions; they work (usually) anywhere and they show trails and roads.Just need a clear view of the sky. I hike/ski in the Colorado wilderness all year. Just BC skied 4 miles to a beautiful lake at 10,800'.

  4. I've been using this app for years and love it, BUT just now trying to download another map it hit me with a charge to download more $28 a year, seems only 10 complimentary maps?? I thought it was free? That sucks!

  5. I have spent 2 hours trying to get a map ahead of time to write down so I don’t have to keep my music off in order to listen to the bit!
I will listen to this again. I’m frustrated because so far my google app will NOT give me directions ahead of time. I want to go on my trip relaxed listening to my music not always having to worry about the bot giving me directions.

When I get the google map there is no option for a list of directions ahead of time. I want to drive from Longmont Co to Las Vegas. It’s a 12 hour drive! I don’t understand why I can’t find ANYTHING to give me directions ahead of time I just need the highways so when I do close ups of the highways I can’t see what the other streets are and it’s taking me FOREVER. Thank you I will listen again but it seems complicated and I don’t want to use up my data. This is just ridiculous!’n

  6. When I am offline and there is no line can I still use the app after I downloaded it?

  7. Thanks alot as someone who will try to navigate in the sea as a refugee facing the real death i hope this would help so thank u again ❤

  8. The problem is that it doesn’t work for other public transport ion like train or bus it just display car direction 😢I don’t know why

  9. Thank you very much. yes you are right its good to have more adventure, but I will travel with kids and every info is now important for me. Hope you will have big success with youtube.

  10. Thank you as i didn’t know how to find my downloaded offline map. It worked well in my trip. 😊❤
