Yakushima Island (屋久島) is a true island paradise, hidden in southern Japan. Yakushima is an island gem that holds many secrets. Traveling to Yakushima ranks as my favorite experience in Japan so far, and is a truely unforgettable experience. In this video we will hike to Jomon Sugi, explore the Shiratani Unsuikyo forest, climb inside the Wilson Stump, swim with turtles and explore tide pools uncovering the mysteries of Yakushima.Nothing like what you find on mainland Japan. Yakushima was the inspiration for the Miyazaki film Mononoke Hime (Princess Mononoke) located in Kagoshima Prefecture, the southern most part of Japan before Okinawa, and holds many treasures waiting to be discovered.
